I taught her how to play when she was 12. I set her up with a cheap mini guitar and studio equip. She produced a couple of very good songs.
She quickly lost interest and hasn’t played since. Now 15, she called me up and said “hey gramps, i’ve been playin again. I miss lots of notes, but i am sending you something”

She sat on the edge of her bed with the phone lying there and sung this little part. It’s just lucky I can hear both the guitar and her?

I know it is crude singing and playing into an iphone, but through it all, what do you think of her talent. A,B,C,D ?? (short take) thanks in advance

There's absolutely a seed there, but she really needs to work hard to develop it... in a "stylish" way it is rubbish now. But if you think she has that kind of resilience, she might actually go somewhere!

Nice to hear that you think there is a seed there. I could have had her record that in my portable studio and made it much better. Just glad she is interested again. Thanks for your help

I was so hoping you would stop by. I knew you wouldn't pull any punches. She has no courage presently and I will work on that. she also has a garbage guitar. Thanks much

I think she has a beautiful tone! Reminds me a little of Laura Marling. To me music isn’t about perfection, it’s about feeling, emotion, tone etc. Keep encouraging her and if she sticks with it she could become as good as anyone. That’s my point of view.

Hi Philip...nice to meet you. I thought to myself last night after hearing this that it was very good because as you say the emotion factor. I have been recording for the last 14 years and have worked with many folks. I am 72. I know I am prejudiced, but there is just something there. Changes of success are most likely one in ten thousand or worse. Still??? Your point of view is important. thanks a lot

Depends what she wants to do - For what we do it doesn't matter , she can record in a home studio and get music on TV / Movies etc. Her voice is ready and it can be done n the safety of her own space.

If she wants to perform in front of others then sure, that's a whole different skillset and I would urge her to find a good vocal coach, not because she needs to learn to sing but because confidence is partly having the technique to fall back on when nerves kick in and also the right teacher will be able to unearth more in her voice and give her a broader palate of sound through which to express herself. Some also teach performance skills as well.

I like her vocal tone and ability to convey emotion. She does some tasteful scoops in her singing from time-to-time too that I enjoyed.

I hope she keeps at it.

Hi Johnny. Nice to meet you. It's funny you said that about the scoops. I brought my puter into my wife and asked her to listen to those. ha ha

It wasn't too long ago I heard her doing that constructing a new song and said "I hear you scooping, at one time they didn't like that, but I'm not sure anymore '" She said, "It doesn't matter gramps, I'm gonna do it anyway"

i just love that kid
