Post by irwin » Fri Feb 11, 2022 2:09 pm

Hi everyone, I've been questioning this song I have created and produced all by myself (Can this be a hit song). Please, I'm in need of your inputs.

I have an easy answer. Look up the charts at what is a hit today. Does it fit in with any of them? Is it as good or better? Then you will know.

Hi Irwin

chord clashes,

However, this sounds a little more cohesive than some other tracks I have heard from you recently (especially in the 2nd half).

Tom
Hi Tom, the chord clashes, I created it for that's what I was reaching for.

I am so happy that you notice the coherent.

Thank's a lot for your input much appreciative.

Hey Irwin...Been awhile. You have gotten better as I told you last year, but you're just not there yet

Don't be discouraged, but also take some of the advice here given to you

I had stuff back in the 90's & even early 2000's that was lacking...Very lacking in production quality, instrument choices, bad drum machine usage etc. You name it, I did it wrong...I thought they were smashes. But my demos only got smashed, & rightfully so

But after another 10-15 years I looked up one day & realized I was now pretty darn good. Then another 5 years later, I realized I was pretty damn good.

Keep at it, but do not take the crits here lightly...

My suggestion to you at this stage is if you have a song you believe in...DO NOT PRODUCE IT YOURSELF...Keep on working on your production chops on the down-low. But for now, if you REALLY believe in a song...FIRE YOURSELF as producer...I did it & SOMETIMES I still do it. On my latest track I fired myself on electric guitar.

I did that for many years until I got better. Yet I was still able to put out quality work because I worked with a great Producer.

Serve the song...

Hi Irwin,

Well done on the creation, and thanks for sharing. It's not an easy task to create, compose, produce and record to share and have others judge. Personally, it took me a while to stop personalizing the feedback that was given to me. Once I did, I started listening to my own tracks more analytically, and gradually they started getting better and better.

To your question, can this be a hit song, in it's current form - very unlikely. It sounds very much like a demo idea/work in progress. Many sounds that are busy that are "there", and are not adding to the track; some may be in clashing keys as others have stated. Additionally, the sounds of the instruments do not sound contemporary in the slightest. They don't have to be, but it makes it harder to sell to others as a modern hit.

So all that said, here's what I would suggest:
- Find a few song references in the genre you're writing for. Break down the structure, timing, changes, melody, arrangement, and production.
- Simplify to start - Strip the song back to one instrument and a vocal. Work on the tempo, composition and arrangement.
- Vocals - She has a nice voice, and I'm assuming that's the centerpiece of the song. The vocal melody should change and build more throughout the song to hold the interest.

Another tip I've gradually learned myself that works quite well - edit. Anything we create needs to hold the interest of the listener, for the duration of the piece. I often "over-create" (not intentionally) but now I find myself cutting from my work, more than adding to it, to make it better.

Good luck. It's a journey!
Brad

The fundamental problem seems to be either that he is not taking any of the advice seriously, or that he is for some reason unable to follow it.
Reminds me of someone..... :?

Hi CTWF, With all due respect to you I don't think this is a subject for my singer and I don't think the words you have mention/used above was necessary, for I have the right to represent and protected my singer.

I mainly post this and all my original songs I have created here for advice and comments for my music productions, therefore I won't mind anything say and said about me and my music productions. Thank you for understanding.
