Hi, Mike.
Sounds to me like there's something wonky with the percussion/rhythm track, quite noticeable as early as the :15 mark.
Let's see of other comments agree.

Yes I totally agree with Peter. Sounds like drums was recorded/put on top of, after guitar was recorded? I’ve done similar in the past, but definitely out of sync/wonky.

Cool song idea though 🤘

Jonathan, thanks for your feedback! I actually thought about doing a version without the percussion. The percussion was an added thing.

I wouldn’t necessarily axe it, just needs to be tightened up, or as has been said of some of my songs before.. needs to be more “in the pocket”.

Hey all, I made the adjustment on the song’s percussion by removing it and I actually like it better. Thanks guys for your input!

I didn't hear the previous version. I like this version although it sounds dry to me, maybe some subtle reverb? Maybe see how increasing the reverb level throughout the song might give it some added energy? The one thing that sticks out is a performance issue in the vocal. When you get to "back to your door" the energy level drops every time. Perhaps you ran out of breath? To me, this sounds like the song you've been saving for the middle of the 3rd set when the crowd is tired and drunk and you need something to kick the party back into gear. What would you do with that phrase in that situation? Envision the crowd coming alive as they realize how cool this song is and how they get back up dancing feed you energy back and creating a loop that drives everyone crazy... then you end on the downbeat with "door". What kind of emotion and energy would the vocal need to make that work? Would a modulation add to the emotional urgency?

Hope this helps.

Cheers from an Ohio State alum!

Michael

P.S. I'd love a chance to try playing in the pocket with this one...

Michael, I did think about having some reverb added as you suggested. That could definitely add some energy. I can also see your point about singing "Back to your door" in another way. Both very valid points. Thanks so much for your input and taking the time to listen!

I very much agree with Michael, good point, I think it could use a bit more "sass"? in your voice? It's a great way to think of it playing in front of people and the crowd getting excited, the vocals could definitely come to life a bit more for me, but the song itself is catchy

I may be biased now, but I like the idea of attaching an "in the pocket" drum track. Just my opinion, don't take it to the bank
