Hi all, I'm risking another peer-to-peer submission.
With this one:

https://soundcloud.com/pierre-veniot/ou ... al_sharing

Comments welcome...

We're searching for Emotional Cocktail Jazz Instrumentals (or Cues) in a range of emotions and moods including (but not limited to): Fun, Swanky/Classy, Nostalgic, Uplifting, Longing, Breezy, Sultry, Melancholy, Heartbreaking, Relaxing, etc., etc., etc....

We're purposely not giving any references for this Listing because a variety of tracks that effectively convey a mood or emotion that a music supervisor, executive producer, film director, or editor would find compelling and "useful" could be fair game.

Our A&R team will have a simple mandate: Are they GREAT? Do they instantly capture, convey, or embellish an emotion or deepen a mood? Do they sound ready to go as is? Would they work well for placements in Film, TV, or maybe even Advertising? Would TAXI's music licensing clients be happy to hear them and want to sign them because they know they can make money with them? Once again, the bar will be high for this request.

No fades, please. Buttoned endings are needed, and edit points are recommended, although not necessarily in the form of a big, fat rest ;-)

Please send well-performed Cocktail Jazz Instrumentals (or Cues) with captivating melodies and excellent musicianship that set a clear emotional tone from start to finish. Think of what you might hear in a hotel lobby scene, an upscale restaurant, a swanky, sophisticated bar/club scene, an elevator scene, or even a scene where someone gets home from a hard day at work, pours a glass of wine, and turns on music to relax to in the background – and give them that!

Craft your pieces around a central emotion or mood and stick to one motif throughout to create compelling arrangements that have a sense of dynamics, forward motion, and interest.

Many Thanks for your time

Pierre

Hi Pierre,
The horns that come in with the phrases at 00:36 seconds and again later is not working for me,you already have enough stuff going on, also if you do decide to keep it the first one is a bit off with the timing.

That's all for now.

good luck.

Yeah much better without the other horn lines.

Now the snare/shaker sound that comes in at 00:34 sec panned to the left lower the volume and maybe not so much to the left, also it just continues through out the track, maybe give it a rest for a couple of bars or more and bring it in back again.

The clave pop sound that comes in with the reverb, the first one at 20 sec it's just a hair ahead of the beat if you compare it to when it repeat again at 30 sec mark.

that's all for now.

good luck

Another fine track, but it comes down to the mood interpretation again.
For some context, here are two of my submissions that I think hits the target:

Stay Here: https://on.soundcloud.com/9CX5z

Closer Please: https://on.soundcloud.com/57g2B

I've tweaked the mixes a little since posting on Soundcloud.

Thanks Paulie, I get you.
You are deep into Lounge... Classy, relaxing...
Listing says: Swanky/Classy, Nostalgic, Uplifting, Longing, Breezy, Sultry, Melancholy, Heartbreaking, Relaxing, etc., etc., etc....
Do you see it fit in one of those?

Thanks again
Pierre

I can go deep in the lounge category. ;)

To answer your question, no, I don't see your track fitting any of those particular moods. But, they are just mood examples, it comes down to what the screeners think. It's tough when they don't provide references. Also consider that this listing has a very high bar... from the listing:
"Our A&R team will have a simple mandate: Are they GREAT? Do they instantly capture, convey, or embellish an emotion or deepen a mood? Do they sound ready to go as is? Would they work well for placements in Film, TV, or maybe even Advertising? Let me approach this a different way. What mood do you think your track portrays?

I also submitted two calm latin jazz tracks that I think fit the breezy/relaxing category, and one that I think might fit in the uplifting category.

Well, I think it is a nice relaxing track that could incite to serve yourself a glass of fresh wine looking outside a at nice garden...
It could surely fit in a commercial or a film, I have many tracks like that in some librairies.
Yours tend to be more ''dated'' I tried a more modern sound.
But it's just me.
If find it hard to decipher the TAXI lingo sometimes...
Anyways, good exchange of thoughts.
Very helpful for the future.
Thanks again

As with the others, it comes down to how much focus there is on "cocktail lounge". A track can be great but not a fit for the listing, as you know. As someone mentioned on one of the threads, you can listen to samples of cocktail lounge music in other good libraries and compare.

Also, too much/too loud lead melody is not a plus for Film/TV background. Play the track at very low volume and hear how much the lead melody stands out. As is, it would be hard to put this under dialogue.

Best of luck!
