QUOTING THE COMPANY'S CEO: "This needs to be a film score style of writing. Instrumentation should be mainly an orchestral palette but can contain electronic instruments if they blend well with the orchestra. The goal is to evoke an emotion that is representative of nature settings: mountains, plains, forests, deserts, etc. Stick to a singular emotion which can be dramatic, optimistic, despair, etc."

Please submit Orchestral-based Instrumental Cues that evoke a singular emotion and could work to elevate a nature documentary. Emotionally captivating motifs, solid compositions, and dynamic arrangements with plenty of forward motion and interest are needed for this request. Instrumentation that's in the general stylistic ballpark of the references will work best (think strings, percussion, winds, brass, etc). Please be sure that any virtual instruments or samples you use are high-quality and very realistic-sounding. Also note that the company's CEO said, "...can contain electronic instruments if they blend well with the orchestra."

TAXI TIP: It may be helpful to use muted nature documentaries for visual inspiration while composing for this opportunity. (In fact, the Client even suggested it!)

Your submissions should be between 2 and 4 minutes long, give or take. Non-faded, buttoned/stinger endings will work best. Do NOT copy the referenced material in any way, shape, or form. Use it only as a general guide for tempo, tone, and overall vibe. Do NOT submit any material with unauthorized samples of any other artists’ music, sounds, or any other form of media. Hi John,

I like it - very expansive - reminds me a little of Copland. But...

It needs mixing, and the strings sound pretty strident. If you're going for more of a "vintage" sound like the references, it's a little closer, but still needs work methinks.

I'll work on the strings. Regarding the mix; the balance seems ok when I check the meter levels. Was there anything specific that you noticed about the mix, otherwise?

The orchestra sounds balanced. I listened again, and what's really bothering me are the strings. Maybe a bit of a dip in the mid-range overall, but it's mostly the strings.

The composition and orchestration are fine, but it doesn't sound like those classic (not Classical) orchestral recordings. It's too upfront - doesn't sound like a decca tree set up if you know what I mean (most of those classic studio orchestra recordings were decca tree with a couple of spot mics.)

I am totally going off of the references - you wouldn't want that much of a decca tree sound for modern film scores (although they are still used), but those references have an old fashion orchestral sound - that's what I'm getting at.

Let me know if none of that makes sense. - Marl

I've improved the legato lead strings, and added and subtracted in a few strategic places.

I think I'll go with the more current sounding presentation, however, you DO make an interesting point.
