Hey All,

I tend to record lots of full songs, but really want to learn about instrumentals and cues. You guys do such amazing work I thought I would turn here for advice on how to improve. Here is my first shot at a Lo-Fi instrumental (a genre I love, but never recorded).

TAXI # S240526CH - A Bunch of RELAXING LO-FI/CHILL-HOP INSTRUMENTALS

Any and all thoughts would be much appreciated. Thanks for your time :)

Hey Gary!

I'm digging it. Very cool laid back vibe, and it has that (what I call) starkness about it - very dry in your face, no(ish) reverb kinda (there is an ambience, but nothing really awash)... And this one is just a bit hard to figure...

To me, it's almost there. Maybe a bit more polish... meaning some more very subtle ear candy. Also, the performance (the playing) is meant to be relaxed and chill, but I almost feel that maybe it's a little bit too laid back - maybe just a little tightening needed...

If this is your first attempt, then bravo.. cause the more you write these, they better they'll get, so you're off to a great start!

I wish you the best with it.

Hi there. So this is very cool and chill and I enjoyed it. I can see this being used in a movie or show for sure. The only negatives are that yes, I agree with macomposer that it could use little bits here and there to add at least variety since there are no vocals and all that's left for us listeners to super focus on is the instrumental. But I think it's pretty nice so good job.

Folks,

Thanks for the kind words and useful advice. I added several additional layers and the song ended up getting forwarded. Here's how it ended up:
