Hi all,
I'm planning to submit this track for this brief, but first I'd love some feedback from the hive mind.
Track: https://www.taxi.com/members/AtDl-WGNQ2 ... the-lights
Brief:
Lots of HYBRID DRUMLINE INSTRUMENTALS (in a wide stylistic range) are needed for a Major Sports Network by a very busy Music Library with a great track record of placements in Films and TV shows!
This Library is looking for a Wide Range of Mid-to-Up-tempo Instrumentals that are in the general stylistic ballpark of the following references:
"Smooth Win" by Alexander Hitchens
"Crushed" by David Robidoux
"Watch Me Go" by Hot Kicks
Although one of the references has vocals, please submit Instrumentals ONLY.
IMPORTANT: This Library is looking for Instrumentals that have a prominent drumline mixed with other mainstream elements. Additional Hip Hop drums, brass hits, synth bass, electric guitar riffs, 808s, staccato strings, etc. could all potentially work! Just be sure to keep the drumline featured prominently, and make sure it has the hyped-up type of sound that you would hear on a sports network!
Please submit well-crafted Hybrid Drumline Instrumentals bursting with rhythmic energy that could work for a promo spot or highlight reel on a Major Sports network! Your submissions should have exciting grooves, dynamic arrangements with plenty of forward motion and interest, well-performed percussion, and exciting integrations of other mainstream elements. Live instrumentation is encouraged for the percussion, but if you choose to use virtual instruments or samples, please make sure they are high-quality, realistic, and not dated-sounding. Capturing an authentic Drumline sound is key for this listing!
So I have 2 specific questions about my track as it relates to this brief:
1-I submitted a different track to a similar listing back in the spring and was returned with the feedback that the drumline wasn't prominent enough (the specific wording was "this is a brass cue with drums, not a drumline cue") That brief was for drumline instrumentals, not HYBRID drumline, but it contained some of the exact same language as this brief. So, for this track I made the drums *really* prominent in the mix, but I'm concerned they're a bit too much. Do you think the drums are too hot? Should I dial them back a bit? I don't want to get the same feedback that the drums aren't featured enough, but I also don't want to get criticism that the mix is bad.
2-Stylistically, this is quite different from the reference tracks. The brief says they want "a wide stylistic range" but do you think this retro-dance type vibe would work on a sports network? I personally think so but I'll admit I don't have my finger on the pulse of these things.
Any feedback on either item (or anything else) is very welcome. Thanks!
Geoff

Re: Feedback for Hybrid Drumline
Hi Geoff,
It's a really good song. It has all the ingredients it needs, with the drumline still being the main feature.
The only thing I noticed is that, compared to the references, all of them have a more prominent bass or kick in the mix.
Great work!
Cheers.
Andre

Re: Feedback for Hybrid Drumline
Thanks very much Andre. That’s a really good shout on the kick drum. I’m not sure it’d be a deal breaker without it, but it could probably add some juice to mix one in. I’mma try that!WSAO wrote: ↑Mon Jul 15, 2024 4:28 amHi Geoff,
