Hey M & S
Your song isn't even remotely close to the references. I'm not sure what else to say.

Best,
Casey

Thanks, Casey. We thought maybe because they were open to a broad range of genres ...

BTW we are also open to suggestions for improving the song, the mix, etc. even if it doesn't fit the listing.

While they said a wide range, it has to be in a popular commercially viable genre which it's not. This isn't broadcast quality at all and the lyrics don't really "have strong perseverance-related themes". Early in the listing it says "high end licensing company".

Thanks for persisting with us, Casey! Any specifics on what we could do to get it closer to broadcast quality?

The references essentially include a contemporary trap song and a modern pop song. The vibe I get from your song is early 1970s organic singer-songwriter, with no modern production elements, no pitch correction - something sounding more like a Carole King demo without the piano. I am not an expert on singer-songwriter, but the production itself possibly would not need all that much to get to BQ. I guess some of the singing should be more precise. There also is noticeable a change in the key several times that could be an issue. But the style/genre is the main problem for that particular listing.

Thanks, Tom. This is helpful. We'll try Melodyning the fiddle, and perhaps more on the vocal, and looking for a synth that works. BTW, do you hear specific places in the vocal that sound out of tune? Or do you think we should just do the whole vocal? Because we actually already Melodyned a couple of places in the vocal that sounded off to us.

Hey!

You probably don’t want to hear this, but like Tom and Casey, I feel like you are trying to cram a square peg into a round hole. Your production is not yet in the commercially viable ballpark - and no amount of Melodyning is going to fix that.

Keep the song as is for artistic gratification (nothing wrong with that). Maybe wait for a listing to come a long that aligns better with what you have. Probably you’ll need to do a much higher quality production with a different singer, if you want to get any real traction with this.

Sorry!
Jim.

Hey Micheal

I appreciate the spirited performance ( tuning issues aside ) but the main gist of the list to me is...

I get the effort you’ve put into this, but honestly, this feels like a continuation of the same issues we’ve been seeing for the past few years. The genre and production just don’t line up with what’s being asked for here.

I know it’s tough, but it might be time to take a step back and rework things from the ground up if you want to make something that fits this kind of listing. I’m sure you’ve got it in you, but this one isn't even in the same zipcode never mind ballpark and tweaking it is not going to change that.

Hope this helps,
Mark

Thank you, Mark. Is the vocal the main thing that puts it in the wrong zipcode stylistically? And is the vocal is the only thing that needs tuning? Thanks.
