Can i use itunes for metadata?

Yes, definitely. You can add metadata to your .aif/.aiff and mp3 files using iTunes. Keep in mind that .wav files to not reliably hold metadata so even if you tag a .wav file with iTunes or any program, it is likely that the data will only be visible on YOUR computer.

If you are on a Windows PC, there is a much easier way to do it for mp3s. Just right click on the file name in Windows Explorer and select "Properties", then "Details". You can edit right into the fields.

For mp3s, there is a free program you can download called mp3tag that is very popular. With .aif/.aiff, iTunes may be your best free option.

One suggestion I have is to do a test to make sure that after your tag, those tags are sticking for other computers. Send the newly tagged files to a friend (email or wetransfer) and have them bring up the files on their computer's music player or iTunes. Have them verify the tags are there. Or you can put the files on a thumb drive and take them to another computer if you have access to one.
