Aint Stupid Enough (to Take You Back)
(c) 2006 Walt Lamberg and Alan Lamberg
Verse 1
Drove by your favorite café, thought about that night.
We had a pleasant dinner, then another pointless fight.
Sat alone in that park where we spent a Sunday afternoon.
A little bit of happiness ended way too soon.
You could be so loving one moment,
Then steal all that loving back.
I may be dumb enough to still want you,
But I aint stupid enough to take you back.
Verse 2
Went to that country dance club, seemed to see you everywhere.
One woman wore that dress you like; one had your color hair.
Guy she was with shot me a glance, “Bud, how long you gonna stare?”
My friends just shook their heads, like “how can you still care?”
You could be the night’s brightest star,
Then color my morning black.
I may be dumb enough to still want you,
But I aint stupid enough to take you back.
Bridge
You played too many games; your luck has had its run.
The breaking up got too easy; making up stopped being fun.
I finally figured out, where you were coming from.
Somebody hurt you bad, and you want to spread the pain around.
Verse 3
Came home, checked my messages, heard you say, “Please call me.”
Erased it, poured myself a tall one, watched TV.
Couldn’t push those words out of my mind, no matter how hard I tried.
Thought of all those things you said, and all the times you lied.
You could make me feel I won it all,
Then play your Queen to my sad Jack.
I may be dumb enough to still want you,
But I aint stupid enough to take you back.
