Hi,

Has the potential to be a pretty good "party type" country song........Be a good idea to put the lyrics on the thread also.....
production wise: drums sounded muffled....vox could come up a little in volume (too laid back)......the guitar could be a little more brighter......a good driving bass would really help tp bring this song out .......keep working on it..............
Regards,
Dick

Hey Noel.. i dont usually comment of country tunes . But I tend to agree with Dick .. Drums muffed a bit, guitar too. Brighten them up a touch. Maybe bring up the bass to give it some drive .. Nice voice .. Could be a hit .. The end could use some work .. maybe end with a big guitar , bass, cymbal hit ... Work it man . it's a good one ..

Thanks for the feedback, it's greatly appreciated. I'm going to take a stab at re-recording it this coming weekend.

Here's the lyrics:

I Don't Dance

When she looks at me Lord it makes me smile
It makes me want to dance for awhile
And we all know I don't dance
There she was across the room
She stole a glance and I did too
Keep your cool boy here she comes

Yeah she made me want to dance and I don't dance
And I don't dance

Fast forward it's Friday night
Wallflower suits me fine
Tip my hat and sip my beer
She said, if you want first base with me
You better get up and move those feet
Girl you don't have to tell me twice

She's got everything that I need
She's got ever single quality

When she looks at me Lord it makes me smile
It makes me want to dance for awhile
And we all know I don't dance
Here's a lesson in chemistry
See I was born without that gene
But she loves me anyway

Yeah she made me want to dance
And I don't dance

Hi Noel,

I agree with the other guys - this has potential to be a cool tune, but you need to work on the production / engineering side of things. I had a good listen to your track in my studio and everything just sounds muffled - if it's safe for me to assume that you are mixing this, what monitors are you mixing on and can you tell that this recording is not as clear as it should be ?

For whatever it's worth, the word "demo quality" is loosely thrown around these days (even in the sales pitch by this TAXI site), but with the advent of DAW's, hi-quality plug ins and relatively affordable mics, many current "home" recordings sound as good as the pro-recordings from only a few years ago.

It's important that your songs have the best engineering on them that you can provide, as you want to be able to put your tunes in the best light possible. From my experience, that ESPECIALLY applies to country-type music, which is reknown for pristine sound. (Check out this link if you like for an example : http://www.highwaysons.com . This is a country band that I have just signed on with as lead guitarist, and the tracks we have on that site were all done in big studios in Nashville).

So, in my opinion, work on your engineering skills if you are doing this at home, so that you can have this tune (and any others) judged on it's merits alone - while not being distracted from the recording quality.

Hi Mark,

After listening to your link yes I would definitely agree that it sounds muffled. I'm using a Studio Projects B-1 mic thru a Mackie Blackjack. Maybe my gain is turned down too low. I'll work on this, this weekend when I give a go on the re-record. Thanks for the input. Hey if you guys are ever in Salt Lake City, Utah lemme know. I'll open for you! Hey, positive thinking right?

Hey Noel,

Sure man ! By the way, if you are interested, PM me and if you can get the tracks from this song to me (online dropbox or something), I'll have one of my engineering friends take a crack at mixing it down for you - maybe they can improve it some which will help to point out some things that you might not be doing already....

Mark:

Followed the story along and like the tune but i think there are two main things you can improve. Melodically take it someplace higher somewhere along the line or in spots and the other is maybe paint a picture a bit in terms of who she is - looks or something so we can hold on to who she is. But i do know you dont dance and she does and you are gonna dance to get her and that is the point.

Nice focus.

Andy
