Hi Everyone,
Pedro and I were considering submitting to the following song to this listing:

http://www.taxi.com/joshhowatt

"How Beautiful You Are"

- if it fits stylistically, Pedro will most likely go back in and mix everything so it sounds of higher quality

CONTEMPORARY, MAINSTREAM POP SINGER/SONGWRITER-type SONGS a la Jason Mraz, Colbie Caillat, John Mayer, Sara Bareilles, etc., needed by a successful Music Publisher who's gotten tons of great Film/TV placements for many TAXI members. Songs must have a commercial sound with instantly memorable melodies. They're looking for the Top-40 Radio side of Pop Singer-Songwriter, not the more moody introspective style. Keep your hooks BIG and your choruses CATCHY. Universal lyrics with no proper names, specific storylines, or place names, please. Vocal and instrumental performances must be top-notch! They offer a non-exclusive, 50/50 split deal - you keep your original copyrights. Broadcast quality needed (great home recordings are fine). Please submit one to three songs online or per CD, include lyrics. All submissions will be screened on a YES/NO BASIS ONLY - NO CRITIQUES FROM TAXI - and must be received no later than Wednesday, February 22, 2012.

The reason I say go ahead and spend the effort on gussying up this track
is, even if it's not right for this listing, it is just PERFECT for some listing,
perhaps in the future.

The melody and lyric widely accessible. It reminds me of that pop hit
Michael Buble had recently and would be right at home in the trailer
for a huge romantic movie.

Great job!

Hey bud

Having four posts out of the 25 available slots is not so cool.

I suppose "Anyone" could have told you that.

Sorry. I'm new. I just hadn't gotten a response, so I was wondering if it was something to do with the songs. I wasn't aware there were only 25 slots. My apologies, no need for smart remarks.

Yup, that was a smart remark. I am sorry also.

We get many new folks that dump all there stuff on the boards and get upset when nobody answers quickly.

There IS no set format.

Soon as I get caught up, I can listen to your stuff.

sincerely

Paul

sounds in the ballpark to me song wise

mix wise it sounds really ambient (on all instruments) and the vocal especially on the break at 0:47 - vocal seems like its riding on top of the mix instead of being in it. Ambient vocal could be okay (like John Mayer's vocal on ...Body is a Wonderland...) but the rest of that mix is pretty punchy and surrounding the vocal.

Its relatively pretty panning wise as well.

-and "quiet" - maybe you haven't processed it yet for "mastering".

love to hear it again if you guys do some more work on it.

my 2 cents - take with a truckload of salt.

I don't understand the "four out of twenty-five slots" thing.
Please explain so I don't make the same mistake.

Thanks!

Hi Burpo
I was mulling that one for awhile too. I think Paul was just referencing the list of topics in the queue requesting listens, not anything pertaining to rules. I tend not to ask much about our songs, mainly cause theres nothing I can do about them anyway. Not in the studio these days.

I also am a bit intimidated about being a pain in the neck. I enjoy listening to what folks throw out there for opinions. I'm amazed at how the regulars listen - really listen! And give solid advice on improvements. People pay pretty good money for this service in another side of the industry. This service is invaluable and deserves to be appreciated. All that aside Josh, I totally understand posting something and feeling like you went invisible. Communication in writing is odd. Nobody is in the room breathing. :D

Just my. 2c worth.

Judy

Thanks, Judy!!

Yeah, the etiquette and such, on these forums
seems at times delicate, and other times rather brutal.
