Hey Rockers!!!

Just finished a piece for this listing :

SUCCESSFUL MUSIC PLACEMENT COMPANY needs a CLASSIC ROCK Instrumental for the TRAILER for a FEATURE FILM. They're looking for ELECTRIC GUITAR-CENTRIC CLASSIC ROCK a la Jimi Hendrix's "Voodoo Child (Slight Return)." They're looking for MID-to-UPTEMPO guitar anthems that convey a SUPER CONFIDENT, UBER-COOL SWAGGER. Your piece must be a minimum of :90 long. They're NOT looking for boring loops with no variation. Your piece really needs to go somewhere musically. Instrumentation MUST sound authentic. As always, DO NOT rip-off the referenced artist or his songs in any way, shape or form! NO SAMPLES of other songs or artists can be incorporated into your track. You MUST own or control 100% of the Master and Composition rights to submit for this listing. Broadcast Quality is needed. The estimated licensing fee is $5,000-15,000. You will keep 70% of the ultimate fee, and you will NOT give up ANY of your Master, Publishing and Writer's share !

fingers are crossed!!! any feedback is welcome too!!

You nailed it.
My only concern is getting so close that the
Lawyers may call. I ended up submitting Dig In and Willows Groove.
I was concerned my original idea was too close.
I hope I'm wrong in your case and good luck with it.

Mike, that's amazing. How did you put together the awesome drum part this fast?

Rich, yours are great as well, like you said, a bit different direction. I'm right there with you on a couple tracks of mine. On a listing like this, I'm never quite sure whether they're asking for a Hendrix sound on the nose (the 2nd sentence in the listing), or whether a similar classic rock sound (the 1st and 3rd sentences of the listing). How much flexibility is there ... Well, like my Dad always said "you pays your money and you takes your chances"

Ok I checked out WIllows... digging it!!!! I think you hit the hendrix tone with that strat/neck pickup riff. I say you could hit an audioslave/rage against the machine listing too if it comes up.

Thanks Mike !

I never intended this post to be all about me....

ps; You got the Hendrix thang down.
I'm a Hendrix fanatic myself. My intended version had that same sustaining bend with the wah wah action from Voodoo Child...go figure :D

I actually didn't use the wah wah for that sustained bend. I flick the 5 way switch on my guitar back and forth over and over again. Try it out, sounds just like hendrix!

Hey Mike,

I know that technique. I listened to your post on my iphone ( speakers ) and I couldn't pick up that nuance.
I know your production values are spot on, so I was just listening to the melody and grooves.
The melody isn't a rip-off of Voodoo, it's just that in my mind Hendrix's sound and style is so recognizable that it's hard to emulate it without touching sacred ground.
A weakness on my part.

Cheers !
Rich.

I hear ya!!! even when the big guitarists (satriani, Lukather) play you can instantly tell when go into "hendrix" mode.
