I just got a song returned. This seemed simple - it was background source music...
MUSIC SUPERVISOR working on an ICONIC TV SERIES needs Mid-to-Up Tempo GRITTY INDIE BLUES ROCK and GARAGE ROCK REVIVAL SONGS with Male or Female vocals. The primary use of these songs will be background source music that will play out of a jukebox in a bar, from a car radio, or maybe even a party scene. She wants to hear songs that would appeal to fans of: “Beat The Devil’s Tattoo” by Black Rebel Motorcycle Club: http://bit.ly/d9jBHB “Circle In The Sky” by North Mississippi Allstars: http://bit.ly/1cRiAAM “Blood Red Blood” by The Ettes: http://bit.ly/18hs4BV Your songs must have a soulful and authentic DIY/Garage feel. Your vocal performance must be strong, with a unique character and vibe. Broadcast Quality is needed. Excellent home or garage recordings will do the trick for this one ;-) Please submit songs with Universal lyrics. Avoid references to specific details (names, dates, times, places, etc.) that might not jive with the storyline or character development of this show. Themes that are common, relatable and will help to move the mood of a specific scene/plot forward are needed. The estimated license fee for this is $1,000. This is a Direct-to-Music Supervisor placement, so if you nail it, you’ll keep 100% of the sync fee, and retain all rights to your Master and Copyright. You must own or control 100% of your Master and Copyright to pitch for this. Please do not copy or rip off the referenced artists or songs in any way, shape, or form. All songs will be screened on a Yes/No basis with no full critiques. Please submit 1-3 songs online or per CD no later than Tuesday, August 13th at 3pm (PDT). TAXI #U130813BR

He 'dug the vibe' but was picky about the lyrics of a simple blues/rock song for background source music? I'm not even upset - this is just absurd . It's a killjoy - a buzzkill - not to mention ridiculous. Well maybe I am a bit warm under the collar. This critique is definitely NOT consistent with trying to be "on target" for a Taxi listing. The lyrics, though not Dylanesque, were more than adequate for this style of background source music. Am I missing something here?

Here's my song, "Anywayz" - https://soundcloud.com/scottfree4all/anywayz

Hey Scott
Tough one... Sometimes you get an "ouch" when a song for background music gets returned over a seemingly irrelevant lyric issue... Been there.

The only thing I can think of is this in the listing: "Themes that are common, relatable and will help to move the mood of a specific scene/plot forward are needed"... So they took the time to let us know that lyrics WERE important to some degree here.

All you can do is put it past you and move on to the next one. Great music finds a home.

Best,
:D Casey

bummer man. didn't think it was lacking too much story but I guess the screener wanted to hear something else.

Thanks guys - I got one of those video camera tickets today. 80 bucks!!! I went online and saw the video and I was over the line when the light changed. So I guess it's just one of those days. :?

Ugh - can't wait until tomorrow! The law of averages tell me it will be a great day! 8-)

Cheers,
Scott

Uggggh, Scott... I got a camera ticket a few weeks ago... $85. Not much you can do except write them a check and be glad no points are given (at least not here) and therefore it doesn't affect your auto insurance rate.

Jeeees... If I knew I was going to be on camera, I would have at least washed the car! How embarrassing to be photographed that way!

Maybe next time I should use subliminal backwards suggestions - like, "This song is great - forward it or else your private parts will fall off." Hey - maybe I'm on to something!?!

Thanks all for letting me vent - ;)

Cheers,
Scott
