One issue I had with this is that I had actually written several tracks for a library already, so picked these up out of a possible 6. Spent a lot of hours listening to bands such as Best Coat, Surfer Blod, Beach Fossils, as well as the listed alas and though I had absorbed the vibe anyway:

ANyway this: Unsure this screams beach rock!

2) conduct a survey among your fans and ask them what they think you sound the most like. Would it be beach Rock???? I don't think so. Understanding who you are can really help you to decide on the listing to submit to and the opportunities you should pursue.

On Backwash Billy: Cool sounds. However, the drum performance/sound did not sound at the level we needed for a broadcast quality listing. Drums sounded too mechanical.

On Floaters: Awesome bass intro.....Such a cool riff. However, I'm just not feeling this for the listing.....this definitely has an easy cool sound, but there was some other stuff sent in that was perhaps closer than this.....

The Listing is here:CONTEMPORARY, BEACH-Y, INDIE ROCK INSTRUMENTALS in the stylistic ballpark of Best Coast, Real Estate, The Soft Pack, Jacuzzi Boys, etc., are needed by a great Film and TV Licensing company for a variety of TV placements. They need lo-fi Indie Rock Instrumentals that draw influence from the referenced bands, yet stay fresh, original, and optimistic. Your Instrumentals should have an easy, breezy approach that can transport the listener to the hipster-friendly West Coast! All tempos are welcome. Broadcast quality is needed (great sounding home recordings are fine). You must own or control 100% of your master and composition. Please submit one to three instrumentals online or per CD. I just listened to "Backwash Billy" and I would have to agree with the screener in regards to the drum performance/sound, it did feel a bit mechanical to me I listened to "Boyfriend" by Best Coast as a reference and while the tone of the drums sound kinda similar, the tempo for their track is all over the map in regards to slowing down/speeding up whereas your track seems much more "on the grid." One thing you could do would be to use a Tempo track to help add a bit more human feel to the performance. I'd also consider varying up the performance a bit as well, not use the same loop for the fill each time.

Thanks Barry, appreciate it. HEsitant to change it, it is in four libraries right now. Not beucase I disagree or I think it's already great, but I don't "know the rules" around having multiple versions of it out there and i probably won't submit that song elsewhere. Unsure what you mean by a tempo track though? The tracks I already have written have probably run their course about where they are going to be placed with the exception of the new ones. Live and learn with these I suppose. Wasn't my favorite track of the bunch of that style of the ones I wrote. One library singled it ut as one they wante to pick up. Another I applied to be a Hot New Artist, which you can do after you have 20 tracks with them. They wrote me back saying I had enough strong tracks to get that Status, but some , like BAckwash Billy, and (an older heavier track) called Taking The Hard Line, were somewhat repetitive so "please only send your best tracks" . I had posted a question in one of the forums asking the questiondo people post everything they write or do they hold back and only submit their best? Once in a while I have a track that seems kind of dull and I'll let it slide, but it is rare. I tend to post everything.

The only way I can figure to do that when I am just randomly writing is to sit on tracks for a while before submitting. Like a month.

One Happy Clam was probably the most similar to Best Coast, but was already signed off as exclusive elsewhere. Listening back I would have done some different things with that as well.

If you want to listen to a heavier track which was more or less a playground for me playing with Nine Volt Audio's Action TOms I would definitely appreciate some feedback on a track called Blood In The Streets. DIDn't feel the Action Toms were enough to carry the track, but my oerception is that the Tpm And AD have several spots where they aren't playing well together? That track is here.
