I submitted one of our songs for a recent listing asking for an Oasis/Verve Type song BRITPOP!!

Mid-to-Up Tempo ‘90s BRIT ROCK SONGS are needed by a Music Supervisor working on a feature film. She’s looking for bands that would be heard on the same playlists as acts like Oasis, The Verve, Radiohead, Blur, etc. Here are a few examples to get you into the right era for this request: “Live Forever” by Oasis: http://bit.ly/19i6LFv “Black Star” by Radiohead: http://bit.ly/1jqYfrG “She Bangs The Drum’ by The Stone Roses: http://bit.ly/18YtXmc This Music Supervisor wants authentic inspiration from the ‘90s Manchester (or Madchester) era. Give her songs with alluring vocal melodies, and sparkly, jangly guitar riffs played over distorted rhythm guitar chord beds. The drums should play hypnotic but driving beats, with strong groovy and melodic bass lines. Your song does NOT have to have been recorded in the ‘90s, but it needs to have that particular sound. Please be sure to review the referenced artists and songs for this pitch. Do not copy or rip off the referenced artists in any way, shape, or form. Broadcast Quality is needed (great sounding home recordings are fine). Keep your lyrics universal. Avoid specific references to names, places, dates, times, etc. Songs with Male and Female vocals will both be accepted.

My return said this...
This song has more of a Daughtry meets Creed sound, while we're looking for moodier, darker material. Listner #287

Now, I live in the UK. I have in many bands that play this style of music and I know that this is in the Oasis style.
At no point in the listing does it say dark and moody.. it asks for Sparkly Jangly Guitar Riffs! Did this listner
a) know what listing I submitted the song to?
b) Actually listen to the song!

Sorry if this is a bit of a rant but I spend a lot of money joining Taxi over the years and good money submitting songs for listings and critiques. I have a few forwards but never hear anything after that. I am begining to doubt if it is worth my while as other submission sites help you aquire fans and through there I know I am doing well.

Is there a way to query the return and get someone else to listen to it again. I am sorry but listners are dealing with not only peoples hard work but also their hopes and aspirations and I think more attention is required..

Yes, that can be aggravating. I'm sure you know your stuff. There are members who do contact Taxi with their 'case' of why their track should have been forwarded, and you could try that. Besides that avenue, maybe use that Taxi membership to hit up the Rally this year (yes, a few quid from the UK) but that's where the real value is, in my humble opinion. Another great value if you have an interest, is the custom critiques that Taxi offers. I have found those helpful in the past. Music is so subjective at times. Brush it off, have a beer, forget about it completely and start saving for the Rally, where you will make new friends that can really add to the cumulative experience of this music business and help you to learn things that are not the obvious 'formally published' kinds of insights, since things can evolve at a fairly quick pace. The classes are awesome, too.

It's OK to get frustrated - just don't give up!!

There are plenty of resources available through Taxi (in addition to the Road Rally - which is awesome and helpful)

Dial in to Taxi TV each week on Monday and Wednesday's - there is a ton of useful information given there as well as re-inforced in these forums.

Check the forums, to see and listen to what has been forwarded for the listings that you get or don't. This helps you find the wheelhouse and read through the lines for listings in the future.

Maybe try Peer to Peer for your songs prior to submitting, or after submitting to the listing, to get feedback from others.

Keep pushing forward!

Thanks to those who responded but I still feel totally that Taxi screwed up my chances on this one and they never responded to my request to review the situation. Not a great help and service that Taxi is supposed to provide :x

Did you e-mail headscreener_at_taxi_dot_com? I've had responses from that address.

Hey Mark -

Tom here, from the TAXI office.

I hate to disagree with you, but I did respond to your request to review the situation, at 11:02am on January 14th (according to my email records.)
I also note that you did not reply to me, perhaps the email did not get to you? My apologies if that's the case.
Contact me at the office if you'd like me to re-send the correspondence, and I gladly will.

The short version is that, per your request, I reviewed your song and the listing, hoping to get it "re-screened" for you. Unfortunately, I was unable to do so for this one. This listing was unique because the supervisor requesting the material also acted as the screener for the listing. In other words, the music supervisor you were hoping to get your song to did indeed hear and consider your song, and THEY chose to "return" it. He / she did not feel that the piece was on target for their project. It isn't a situation where I can get a "second opinion" from a different TAXI screener, because the opinion you got was from the decision maker him/herself.

I hope the clarification helps! Feel free to contact me at the office directly if there's anything else I can do for you.

Thanks,

Tom @ TAXI
