Listing:
NEW WAVE INSTRUMENTAL TRACKS are U-R-G-E-N-T-L-Y needed by a Music Supervisor working on a Feature Film. She’s searching for Mid-to-Up-Tempo Instrumentals that could be found on the same playlist as “Don’t You Want Me” by The Human League, “Hold Me Now” by The Thompson Twins, “If You Leave” by OMD, etc. Please keep in mind that although the reference Songs all feature vocal performances, this request is for Instrumental Tracks only. Use the reference songs to hear the type of tones, tempo, and feel that could work for this pitch. Quoting the source: “We want authentic sounding ‘80s New Wave Instrumentals that you’d hear in a typical John Hughes Movie.” Yep, the guy who did The Breakfast Club, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, etc.! Your Tracks should have the quintessential ‘80s New Wave sounds that made big hair and colorful, baggy clothes seem like a good idea. Tracks with synth-based keys and bass sounds, quantized percussion, catchy melodic hooks, and a big, gated snare drum sound with tons of reverb should help grab the attention of this Music Supervisor. Your recording DOES NOT have to be an authentic vintage master from the ‘80s. The Music Supervisor WILL listen to recently recorded material that has a true New Wave vibe. All submissions should be original compositions (no covers) and be at least 2 minutes long. Broadcast Quality is needed (great sounding home recordings are fine). Please do NOT copy or rip off the referenced artists in any way, shape, or form. The estimated license fee for this is $1,000. This is a Direct-to-Music Supervisor pitch, so you’ll keep 100% of your Master and Publishing rights, plus you’ll also get 100% of the sync fee and any applicable performance royalties. You must own or control 100% of the Master and Copyright to pitch for this opportunity. All Tracks will be screened on a Yes/No basis. No full critiques. Please submit one to three Instrumental Tracks no later than WEDNESDAY, May 7th, 2014 by 2pm (PDT). TAXI #D140507NW

My submission: https://soundcloud.com/moanakeiki/like-totally-2014

From #372: "Thank you Peter for submitting "Like, Totally!", it's really close, but the feel is not close enough to the referenced acts."

Like, are you serious!? Whatever!!!

Oh I can hear it from your TAXI Page !! :)

It is great ! One wants to dance, ... very so 1980s, this kind of very speedy Hooks and Swings. And so cool at the same time. Nice Beat !! :)

Totally in the atmosphere of those times.

I am even thinking of Boy George himself, woah !

Notice the fading end ! ;)

Thank you for the emotional lift, dear Catherine!! :D :D

I am most definitely familiar with Boy George & Culture Club. They (and he) actually wrote some pretty interesting stuff, that I happen to enjoy.

I guess I'm just bummed that I made (what I thought anyway) was a decent 80's-style New Wave piece and, well ya know ... :(

So, tell me about Soundcloud and why you're having a problem? Does that only pertain to a free account? I pay a small fee for mine, hence why I haven't experienced any issues (yet).

Yea Peter, I used to play some of his stuff in a cover band way back. God, I
hated it the first 20 or so times we played it, but it kinda grew on me later on....along with dandruff
Keep pushing on..ya know!

Steve

I don't know man, that was really good! Just know that if I was making a Feature Film and needed a Mid-to-Up-Tempo Instrumental that could be found on the same playlist as “Don’t You Want Me” by The Human League, “Hold Me Now” by The Thompson Twins, “If You Leave” by OMD, etc. I'd use your song! Jes sayin'.

I gotta be honest, I got more consideration from the sullen hipster who poured my coffee at Starbucks' this morning.

Before I joined TAXI I assumed that reviewers, given something this close, would have used the same 7-10 seconds of typing time to write "Gee it's really close, but the hihat figure is a slightly later period style than the refernced artists...sounds more like "Dead or Alive" than "Thompson Twins", also the bass line was a bit too disco with the octave thing going on" - Something that you could go on other than "the feel's not close enough..."
I guess I was naive in assuming that a reviewer would have the ability to describe this stuff, let alone the need to.

FWIW, I used the hihat and bassline in the example above, because it's the only two things that I could possibly fathom as a gating factor for an 80's reviewer (who knew the 80's)not to forward this.
Once again, I'm left with conjecture in the absence of clear communication.

Given what i know, I'd have forwarded this. It's the best, most correct 80's piece I've heard on here so far. Well done PeterD!

Thank you MUCH, Marc and Billy!!!!! :D :D :D :D

I REALLY appreciate the compliments and what you guys also notice here ...
My afterthoughts - I really should have chosen a 22.5" kick with a 0.75 mm head instead of a 22.25" with the 0.5 mm skin. The latter is SO MUCH MORE June, 1989 than May, 1985. :(

It's INCREDIBLY frustrating when screeners say things that are so far removed from the actual "meat" of the listing.

I'm losing my patience with these guys ... Especially when these rejected songs get picked up by my other library contacts.
