Got a nice return tonight...

Screener 381: "What an interesting track, Paul. Probably my favorite of this screening session. I can't however, forward this on with great confidence for this pitch. When a client is looking for material with the intention of it being used underneath dialogue, I'm very sensitive to any insistent percussion, as this has. I just seeing it getting in the way a bit. I wouldn't have minded hearing the track without it to see if it would hold up. Maybe next time."

So, I'm glad the screener liked my track, but I'm again frustrated because I misinterpreted the listing. It didn't include any specific a la tracks, just artist names. When I searched YouTube for the suggested artists I didn't find a single track that didn't have drums. My track was rejected because it included drums. This is certainly a chill out track in the style of Nightmares on Wax or Thievery Corporation. etc etc etc. If there is a listing requirement as significant as "NO DRUMS", wouldn't that be worth putting into the listing? Argh...

TRYING to stay positive here. Maybe I'll just not submit in the future unless a la's are provided.

CHILLOUT INSTRUMENTAL CUES are needed by a Music Library that offers an unusually cool deal, and is currently going through a major catalog expansion. They're hunting for authentic sounding, Down-to-Mid-Tempo Chillout Cues in the general stylistic wheelhouse of acts like Air, Nightmares On Wax, Thievery Corporation, Bonobo, etc., etc., etc. Quoting the source: "We're looking for music for our 'Chillout' library album. Instrumentals 2 minutes long, with laid-back grooves and spacey atmospheres that can sit behind relaxed TV programming is what we need. Absolute highest quality sample instruments and production only, bad or unconvincing midi sounds won't work well for us." Give them cool, hip, sophisticated sounding Instrumental Cues that you'd expect to hear in a trendy hotel lobby or a classy bar or lounge. Give them a simple, focused melodic motif, while keeping your Cues interesting and dynamic by adding and subtracting various sounds and instruments as your Cue progresses. Please avoid overly busy or frenetic sounds that might distract from dialog. All submissions should be at least 2 minutes long with easy edit points and natural, non-faded, buttoned endings. Do NOT copy or rip off the referenced artists in any way, shape, or form. Use them only as a guide for tempo, texture, tone, and vibe. Broadcast Quality is needed (Great sounding home recordings are fine). This company offers an EXCLUSIVE 50/50 deal on performance royalties, and an 80/20 split in the Writer's favor for any applicable download fees by clients from their Library! Please be sure the material you submit for this pitch is NOT already signed with any other Libraries or Catalogs. You'll get 100% of the Writer's share, and the Publisher will get 100% of the Publisher's share. You must own or control your Master and Copyright to submit. Please submit one to three Instrumental Cues online or per CD. All submissions will be screened on a Yes/No basis - No full critiques. Submissions must be received no later than 11:59PM (PST), on Monday, Decemebr 28, 2015. TAXI #Y151228CI

I hear ya, Paul. Sometimes the listings trip us up.

If it's any consolation, I had three piano solos returned today...

Every return is a learning opportunity. Well, almost every one. :-)

Remember folks out there, if you are getting a 20% forward rate you are doing well. And that means that four out of every five submittals will be returns. Heads up, kids! :)
