My first two submissions= two rejections

I don't disagree with the comments. I should have read the listing better. I think as a brand new member, I tried to squeeze my song in a listing that didn't really fit it. I guess I was too anxious. Reviewer 373 was extremely detailed and I appreciate his or her comments. The other reviewer who I won't mention, was very brief and to the point. And I don't disagree with that reviewer either. Again, I tried to put my song where it really didn't belong. But just sharing my overall experience. I have three more pending with another song.I hope the other reviewers are more like 373. Happy writing everyone.

Yes, those returns can sting. You never quite get used to them. But, as you say, more often than not they come with a nugget of information (or more) that is helpful going forward to the next submissions.
Your attitude is good, which is definitely in your favor. Keep on! Write, submit, forget, repeat.

Hey Nightwolf
Don't sweat it. One of the first things new members learn (at least those who truly want to be successful) is how to better target submissions and not submit things that you just hope will stick. We've all been there.
Reading listings carefully and studying the "a la" references is key. And yes, even with that there will be times when you thought you nailed it but the screener didn't agree. Write, submit, forget, repeat...
Best,

Casey

I read that Katy Perry was a screener from 06/2006 to 02/2007. I checked my old submissions from the first time I joined. I was here 2003-2004. Wow time flies.

I did the exact same thing; my first 5 or 6 submissions were returns, and then I realized I was submitting to the wrong kind of listings. Once I objectively looked at where my music belonged, I started getting forward after forward. Look in that mirror, man!

Good to see you getting back into it, Anthony.
Persistence is the key.
Go get 'em

Thank you Graham for the advice. I have four more pending submissions that I think are closer to the mark. It's hard waiting for the one hit you have waited all your life for. It's like striking on your fishing pole too soon, only to pull up a weed or worse, fling your lure right out of the water into the bushes. Like a fisherman, a songwriter needs patience. I'm working on that. I hope you post a link to your stuff. I would like to hear it. Thanks again.

EVERY submittal is a learning opportunity, wether a forward or return. It takes time to figure out how to interpret the listings, it takes time to learn mixing, it takes time to get the music right. Just keep plugging away at it!
Good luck!

Thanks Paul. I appreciate the advice. So far there has been no issue with the sound quality or mix, just the wrong content. I recorded with an old Tascam 20yrs ago. Most of my stuff now is professionally done with my band. But I can't afford to do that with demos. So I am looking at getting a Mac book and Pro Tools by the end of the year. I used Cakewalk Sonar, Soundforge, and T-Racks in the past, so that part of it is always fun for me. BTW, just got my third rejection. I think I will stop counting.
