Hello boys and girls,I'm afraid my 80s track was returned .................................................................................LATE 70'S/EARLY 80'S POP & ROCK INSTRUMENTALS needed by a veteran Commercial and Indie Film Producer, working on an independent feature film which largely revolves around the music of the 80's era and the specific events that occurred in the year of 1984. Some of those events include Marvin Gaye's death, Michael Jackson phenomenon "Thriller", the Tylenol scare, etc. She is looking for both the popular and the obscure sounds of the 80's music scene, but is also interested in a current look and sound. A variety of instrumentation is welcome, but the 80's "vibe" should be fully convincing and captured. Songs that are selected may be used as montage pieces or in feature moments, such as an on-screen radio show or TV commercial. ...................................................................................Well...we had a thread on spelling/grammar/language the other day on the board and unless it's me this listing isn't "the clearest" to interpret. I read the sentence:- "she is looking for popular sounds of the 80s but is also interested in a current look" as...looking for 80s popular sounds but a current look is also welcome rather than........looking for 80s popular sounds but it must be with a contemporary sound??!! I also cannot see any reference in the listing regarding the exact style they are apparently looking for (AAA/Alternative/Modern Rock).Below are a couple of sentences from the review. Other comments (- coming as no surprise as that's what I intended!!) were... it wasn't current sounding....and it sounded synthetic. A lot of the tracks from the 80s obviously were screaming midi-sound at me but as we have established....they wanted a current look. .................................................................................Very "Billie Jean" sounding - I could smell the Jheri Curl! I think you've captured the 80's pop/dance vibe pretty well here, though I think the overall presentation could benefit from a slightly more unique, contemporized sound. This piece is a little less contemporary sounding than what is being sought here....The situation as it pertains to this particular listing however, is that (as confusing as it may seem) they are looking for an updated, current sounding piece that has the tone of an 80's track. To make it more confusing they are looking for something with a AAA/Alternative/Modern Rock style presentation.................................................................................Thank you to the Screener for the review though - who has also suggested getting a bit more bottom end and maybe developing the melody more - as well as getting it more current sounding!!Just thought I'd post this as some of you helped in its development. Hey Rachel,Sorry to hear ur track was returned... here are some of my thoughts on why.... They might not be accurate, their just my thoughts...1) I think maybe the snare should have had that fat reverb sound they over-used back then.2) The 80's was bombarded with Midi sounds, but not General Midi sounds, which is kind of what I hear a lot in the track (I might be wrong as I'm listening to it through a horrible earphone at work - which cuts about 40% of the bottom end)...3) It needed a wee bit more on the percussion side - e.g. like depeche mode or tears for fears used a lot of tom work or hi-hat work for additional percussive effect.I think your track is really cool, just the sounds are not quiet there. I think this is a track to be worked on more and kept aside for another listing opportunity - DONT DISCARD IT.Take CareB
