For Listener #302 regarding listing # : S091117NA

As I reviewed your critique on the return of my track 'Sunset of My Heart', I can't help but be very confused. Firstly, let me say that I certainly appreciated your highly complimentary approach to the critique! That being said I find it difficult to comprehend for these reasons:

1. The listing asked for cues which emulated certain artists, which according to you have "more ethereal style components", than what you heard from my track. You also mentioned that the melodies & worldbeat qualities of these artists are "memorable", in combination with their "new age" nuances, which in turn helps to, "create their unique sound".
Firstly, I do believe that the percussion on my track was worldbeat enough, to emulate either of the artists mentioned, without completely ripping them off of their ideas, or rather regurgitating their approach.If the client wanted music like the artists mentioned, then in my opinion they should just go license their music. Where is the uniqueness and creativity if the client simply wants a fax of the artists mentioned?
Secondly, the melody used in my track was intended for deeper intrinsic contemplation, which is highly conducive for the practice of Yoga!

2. In your overall comment, you mention that: "traditional healing arts practice is best accompanied by peaceful, meditative music that enhances the experience without distracting from the focus needed to perform the postures properly. Food for thought.

Here is my dilemma with that statement: For the last 13 years I have been steeply involved with the healing arts as a 'hands on healer', Teacher of meditation, as a Lecturer, Author, & Medium (one who gives proof of survival on consciousness) and of course Composer - (My website - http://www.onelightguidesall-vpace.com),
in which I have composed this very music for. I have used my music for these very purposes, and have been told that my music did very much so illicit peace, and is not distracting in the least. Actually reports from audiences, students, and clients, indicate that my music was a catalyst for a deeper, more profound experience!

3. Lastly, it is very difficult to take a return when you indicate that the recording is : Well recorded, has broadcast quality, more conducive as a film cue, yet not New Age enough!

Confusing to say the least! I certainly can go on, yet suffice to say I remain highly disappointed! I thank you for your tact!
Would you please indicate what type of film this would be best suited for?

Vincent, I enjoyed your composition, sounds peaceful to me.

I received returns for this listing too. My tracks were also broadcast quality but they were not quite ethereal enough. Fair critiques as usual.

I'm not sure on whether you've had success here or not but;

I've found getting through for any listing to be a tough thing. My first year with TAXI (I'm in yr.2) all my submissions were not BQ except for one and I did get a forward on that one. For year 2, I've upped my game somewhat and lately most of my submissions have been BQ, but generally I'm still off target, which is my biggest hurdle it seems.

I thought the piece was outstanding. When the beat kicks in, at first the swingy rythym was a bit out of place but then I started to love it...it made it interesting. Maybe it was a bit to "sad" sounding instead of "peaceful" .

I think the Screener is right in some regards... I think it is so good it would pull too much attention away from Yoga!!!
I definitely hear this in a movie scene!! A ton of emotion.
Very nice song and really like it!!!
Just a matter of finding the right listing for this...

I really enjoyed your composition, and I did find it peaceful, but then...
I submitted 4 tracks to the same listing, and got almost exactly the same critique as you on 3 of them - the ones that didn't get through.
Interestingly, I find some similar compositional and stylistic elements in your piece to a couple of the ones I submitted - check out "Noche de Lluvia" and "Camino de la Luna" here:

My first thought was that perhaps this screener isn't into the sound of nylon string guitar, or somehow doesn't find it "relaxing," everyone's got their own taste right.
They did forward one piece of mine "Bodas de Galisteo" - but in their critique suggested that I wasn't the one playing the guitar in it, and had only "produced" it! Man that got me. At least it went through though.
Like in this case, I sometimes have luck submitting multiple tracks for listings which seem more "open" in terms of what they might have a taste for, just to increase the odds. Other listings I find more focused, and I'm able to target them better with just one submission. I've really found it useful to keep track of who likes what, so I can target listings better. Hope that's useful for you.
Anyway, good luck on future submissions, I like your style a lot.

Both of my forwarded tunes had chorus-like sections with classical guitar.... so not sure if that is the case (I had the same screener)... you can go bonkers trying to second guess some of the critiques!!!
You simply cannot get too bummed out, it takes away one's energy (at least it does for me)... I just move on and file that tune away until I see another listing it may fit better. Sometimes I'll do a second version of the song taking into account the screeners advice and file that one away for later.

I have had more success lately because I have posted some of my tunes on the P2P and after I get some feedback that is consistent among the reviewers, make some changes I feel will help.
I always set the context for the peer reviews (ie put in the listing description, or what I'm aiming if I dont have a listing).

I dont think my compositions that were forwarded were that great, but maybe that is why they made it through.... if they were fantastic, they would have been a distraction.
