New Age Returns

Hey Guys,

So I just had a 2/2 Return - with "Music" and "Stylistically Off Target" checked - on the following listing:
""
NEW AGE INSTRUMENTAL COMPOSERS needed by a Leading International Music Production Company representing composers of Film, Television, Commercials, and Video Games. They are not looking to license tracks for this particular request, but hoping to find talented composers to sign and represent. They would like to hear authentic instrumentals (or synth based instrumentals that sound very authentic) that are ambient, light, fresh cues that display your musical talents and recording abilities. They prefer working with composers who have some film/TV credits (although not required to be considered), so please mention credits in your bio if you have any. Broadcast quality needed (excellent home recordings are okay). Please submit two to three instrumentals online or per CD, include bio. ÊAll submissions will be screened on a YES/NO BASIS
""

The tracks submitted are the following:

http://www.centerstreetsound.com/Transcendence.mp3
http://www.centerstreetsound.com/GlasgowGlow.mp3

So, with both "Music" and "Stylistically Off Target" checked, how should I translate this into constructive feedback?
Stylistically, I'm really baffled that these wouldn't be in the NA realm ... :?:
Any help?

Thank you so much!

Best,
Dirk

Transcendence
it might be the mix. the bell is too front, and is distracting, too forward/center. I think the piece is lovely.... it seems a little bit more like acoustic guitar instrumental than new age, but I think it could be NA with the right production

There's a couple of new age forwards on this thread... in particular I think you need to A - B between your mix on Glasgow Glow and the mix on Transcendental Journey, which also uses guitar. You should hear the difference. Marlin's mix is cleaner, all elements are clearer.

GlasgowGlow
this is a lovely piano instrumental but isn't new age at all. I'm curious to know which new age artist you listened to when preparing this piece for submission.

I think you have lots of talent, hang in. Understanding how to write music for specific needs can be difficult. The internet is your friend. You can search right here on the forwards board to find samples of music that fit specific genres, and you can use google to search for new age artists (etc), or itunes, so you can listen to samples. Keep listening and keep learning. You are going in the right direction.

Hey Hummingbird,

Thanks for the feedback!
I agree that Marlin's production is cleaner altogether - great reference, thank you!
Do you have any examples for New Age Solo Piano I could use as a reference?

Best,
Dirk
