another learning opportunity

Hi everyone -

Since joining Taxi last month, I have submitted one track for a listing and one for a custom critique. Both of these songs received 6s and 7s. I think that is a pretty good start - When you get forwards, where do they sit in the scale? I am guessing 9 & 10s

My first submission got returned yesterday with the following comments:
hello. thanks for sending in the music. the track has a good vibe and with minor adjustments, can make the right impact. as both, the accordion and cello impact lyrically with sustaining parts, it may be best to omit one to avoid conflicting similar instruments from struggling for space- the less is more philosophy will result in more clarity, drama and intimacy for the arrangement. its worth the fine tuning to get this piece to blossom into a gem. go for it and good luck!
Now that I listen back to the track, I have to agree that less is more and I plan to re-visit this tune with these suggestions in mind.

The song submitted - Claire's Music Box. I joined taxi in part to learn how to improve my compositions and get real-world feedback and I certainly didn't expect my first submission to get forwarded. I look forward to improving as I go along.

So, Thanks for the comments #275. I appreciate them and hope to continue to get better.

I've had a forward with numbers as low as 7 & 8...but no lower. :)

wish I could answer you but I'm about to rant about my n'th return that was "on target" and got mostly 8's and 9's....and I've got forwards that looked the exact same...trust me, it's only based on the reviewers taste. Nobody is objective...unless they are a robot.

Kayle: Loved that tune! I listened to some others on your page, and loved them as well - I will be back to listen more. I joined for similar reasons, and have had nothing but good, constructive feedback. I've given maybe 5 submissions, and gotten one forward. It was mostly 8's with 7's, btw. You'll see that some folks have submitted the same material at different times, one rejected, one forwarded. Someone earlier made the comment that the reviewers are not objective. Well, no - I don't think they're supposed to be - they are trying to match material to the request of the client. So I figger - just keep submitting, trying to match the specs as best you can, and get better with age! As to the feedback - I can see where you might clear things up by dropping a part. Don't you LOVE current technology?!??! Cause you can just go ahead and do that, any number of ways, any number of times. Remember the old days of analog TAPE! Good grief...So, thanks for the great music!

Thanks for your comments everyone. I will post some of the changes I make and ask if you think the song is better for it.
