Been a rough coupla' months for me. I've gone 0/10 from the month of April through May. I feel like Ray Allen of the Boston Celtics, for that horrible shooting display he had a coupla' nights ago (0/13 - hopefully, he can redeem himself tonight!). Screener gave me a fair review though, so I can't tweak. First time I ever got a 10 for anything! Maybe y'all can give me some pointers on how I can make this sound more "New Age"?

I know there have been discussions about "sound alikes", and "hit material" as opposed to "current material", etc.,etc....but I think I put this together & submitted before those discussions took place, so please keep that in mind. I did model this after one of Yanni's tunes on his most current release. Perhaps take a listen to both, see where I was trying to go, and see what you think might need revising to get closer to the mark? Thanks in advance for suggestions.

The guitar solo is where I started feeling it as jazz. I think the pop vocal on Yanni's song made it sound more pop. Other than that I thought they were pretty similiar. When I think of new age i think of wierd instrument sounds.

Hi. Your track sounds great! It's definitely closer to Bob James than Yanni. It's in the phrasing I think - the little pushes and the syncopation. Yanni is more "classical" in his melodies - more on the beat. I didn't get that "repetitive" thing that the screener came up with. There's a current listing for pre-90s smooth jazz. This would work if the solo (from 1.45) had a more straight jazz tone. The current sound has more of a "world music" feel. Really enjoyed listening!

Thanks for the listen. I thought the guitar sound that I used was kinda' "weird-sounding". Maybe I needed some more weirder sounding instruments? Wow, if you guys think some of my solos sound like jazz, then I really need to write a jazz piece so I can try and belt out some serious jazz chops on my axe. Someone else mentioned that in another one my tunes (Red Alert, I think it was) my soloing sounded jazzy. I assure you, I wasn't trying to even come close to playing jazz in either tune. But...some people hear things differently. No biggie. It's all good!

Thanks Doug, for the listen & the compliment! I gave it a shot. I saw that listing for "pre-90s smooth jazz". I could probably change it, and use a different tone, no problem. But after reading the listing, seems all of the a las are saxophone players. I'd be willing to bet that's what I would really need (a sax part/melody) to even get this considered. I may have to pass on that one. But I could always get it ready for something else that may come along. I'll eventually try and see what I can work out.
