I Think I made a Mistake Joining Taxi
And I did dispatch as well. What a dummmy eh?
The reviewers cannot be reviewing for the actual submissions I and you are using.
I did not expect to ring the bell right with every submission BUT if the submission guidelines say a country song with rock feel and beat then I send a rockin country song. The return says they were looking for a contempary country song. This just is so not not right. And this pattern has persisted in every submission. So it would be impossible for them to be revewing for the submissions we read. It seems to be pit. I'll try the old fashion way. It has worked for years.
I think I pissed away the cash. I guess that is why you can't get shorter term delas here as everuyone figures them out pretty quick. Live and learn.
I just expected honesty and it is not here.

Re: I Think I made a Mistake Joining Taxi
Sorry to hear about that. The truth of the matter is that TAXI is a very honest operation - in fact, it is their honesty that makes the listings challenging to get forwarded. They know what their clients want. In my two and 1/2 years of experience with TAXI, when I look back at my first submissions, I have noticed an marked improvement with what I'm submitting now, but I realize the bar keeps getting higher and higher. I'm sticking with it - there's a well-known expectation that TAXI can be a 5-year program with hard work and perseverance. I'm hoping to reach it sooner than that, and TAXI's critiques are getting me there. This is just my take, I hope you can take something from it as well.
By the way, please feel free to post your music on the Peer-to-Peer section of this forum, there are a lot of savvy members here who can help out as well. Good luck,
Jeff

Re: I Think I made a Mistake Joining Taxi
I am not sure where you are going wrong... IF you are going wrong. We could certainly help you much better if you posted your song with the listing in Peer to Peer.
Imho.. a "Rockin' Country tune" does not resemble the Rock genre at all, it would have in the past though. Other then how country has sort of morphed into a sort of rock of its own. SO if you sent a Country song that sounds like rock I would understand why the screener said "...more contemporary."
"Ten Feet Tall & Bulletproof" - Travis Tritt and even "How Do You Like Me Now" - Toby Kieth, are a couple of decent examples of a contemporary rockin' country tune imho... without the listing and your music though I can only guess...
I would hate to see you give up on Taxi too quickly and end up hurting yourself.. by limiting yourself. I am NOT going to say Taxi is right and you are wrong BUT it could be that you aren't quite understanding the terminology the way it is written. I know, for me, when someone says rock, I think ROCK... for years I didn't even consider the Beatles rock, because I grew up with much harder rock. So I had to teach myself a much better understanding of terms when no a la's are being used.
Screeners DO make mistakes... but if it's happening a lot to you then I am wary to think it's the srceeners.
Good Luck dude,
Rob

Re: I Think I made a Mistake Joining Taxi
What is up with these posts lately. Taxi seems to be getting better and better every week I am a member. Strange.. I think I would of paid 300 bucks to just be a part of this forum. Take some time, I know it's america, but be patient. I have learned so much from the critiques, forum members, taxi tv live, and just being motivated to write more.

Re: I Think I made a Mistake Joining Taxi
I have to agree with Matthew, I think if you use it to your advantage, TAXI is a tremendous learning tool. Sure sometimes the critiques can be hard to swallow, but there is usually some nugget of truth there. It is because they are so picky that the companies we all want to get to still trust TAXI.
What I hear in the critique you used as an example is "the song may be rockin', but it does not have a modern sensibility in the writing." Just a guess. When I say that, I have had way more returns than forwards, so I know what you are going through.
Good luck in the future.
PS: To bad you couldn't attend the Road Rally before sending that letter. After all, apart from travel and hotel it is a free convention and it really is great!

Re: I Think I made a Mistake Joining Taxi
Everything you need to know about Taxi can be found on this forum. One can also see the listings whether you are member or not. There is peer to peer, custom critiques, and many listings that provide critiques with your return. There is a generous refund policy. Given all that, I dont see how anyone could legitimately complain. This business is not for the impatient or thin-skinned.
Screeners are human and there are probably a lot of factors that influence their decisions. I tend to submit a song to several different listings to see if I get common feedback and go from there.
Possibly you have a winner, it may just need some tweaking or the perfect listing to submit to.
