Hi all,

I get lots and lots of feedback and 99% of the time I take a second look and say, yeah, I get that. I can see that needs to be ironed out. But this time, I really don't get it so I don't know how to approach reworking the piece. This was a yes/no, with reason not forwarded, not broadcast quality. The song feedback was very positive and I'd like to get the tune back out there.

Hey Jon,

The song is well written, the vibe is there and there is enough separation in the mix. IMO. I think they heard bedroom reverb and decided that meant it wasn't broadcast quality. I think the room sound captured the vibe. The only thing I can think to say is do a different version with a different mix that is done with more isolation in order to control the reverb unnaturally with plugins. The drums could use a wider stereo field, but I like the sounds you got. A bit more compression for control may help as well, but not on the master bus.

That does indeed. Room problems would make sense. I was feeling uncomfortable because though I'm not a great engineer, I knew I'd done a good job so I didn't know how to improve but room noise and shape is a problem in general so if you heard that, I wouldn't be surprised if they heard that as well.
