I was pretty confident this one was going to be a forward. Can someone explain how this one is stylistically off target?

World-Class NY AD AGENCY Needs a NEO-BLUES/ROCK INSTRUMENTAL TRACK for a TV spot for a Huge Telecom Company. They're NOT looking for classic Blues tracks. Leave your Stevie Ray Vaughan tracks on the shelf. Think more along the lines of Bowie's "Fame" or Black Keys for tempo, texture and vibe, and add a couple of cool, modern-ish sounds to make it contemporary. NY is asking us to give them some "old school/nu skool." Concentrate your efforts on giving your track a sassy rhythm and a little bounce, and don't worry about impressing them with your guitar prowess. Your track needs to sit under a voice-over, so if you go too Clapton on them you're likely to hurt your chances

In my opionion: Your track is in the same stylistic vein as other forwards I have heard for this listing.

This whole listing has confused me.

Although the listing asked for "cool, modern-ish sounds to make it contemporary", none of the forwards I have heard have included any. I did include some and was told that I was "stylistically off target". No disrespect to those who were forwarded of course - I'm just puzzled by the situation that's all.

Not sure on this one for sure but when I first heard it I thought it was dead on, but wondered if it was too close to original, as Brett mentioned. I haven't been around long enough to know if that's considered but that's really the only thing I can think of.

Thanks guys - You might be right that it's too close the Fame vibe but after reading a thread on this listing in the forum and then watching the Taxi TV that was dedicated to this listing I was even more confident based on the things being said. Just trying to find the lesson in this but I guess it's time to move on.

hey EO - I had a song forwarded on this listing, mine - dealmaker on http://www.taxi.com/andygabrys - was probably too close to another ref - I guess the whole listing died anyways, no one got it in the end, the agency changed directions.

I like the tune and vibe, and is definitely fitting in the fame vibe - but I think there are two things - the guitar riffs sounded TOO close to fame in your verse - and it seems like somewhere around 0:33 or so it feels like the guitars are pretty far ahead of the drums rhythm pocket wise just for a second.

Seems like the rhythm thing is pretty sensitive - yesterday another listening closed that was another Bluesy rock listing (probably for the same company) - and listening to the refs, the Black Keys and White Stripes have got kind of a magnetic pull with the drums and guitar riffs, they might be a little tempo warble in the riff, but everyone is playing the same thing. So it never sounds out, it just sounds tight.

my 2 cents anyways.
