Here's the listing:

INSTRUMENTAL WAR DRUM TRACKS in the STYLE of Doudou N'diaye Rose, KODO Japanese drumming, and African Tribal drumming are needed by a NEW VIDEO GAME COMPANY. Quoting the company's Music Supervisor here: "We need Stripped Down BARE rhythms. JUST DRUMS that are Big, Huge, and Epic sounding. Make them sound like 500 drummers [where applicable].

Here were the two tracks I submitted:

Banging Around

Sound The Alarm

In both cases the only box checked was "music." Any thoughts as to what I could have done differently or better?

thanks,
-Big Blue

Hey BB,

This is my wild guess. Neither of them developed to strong outros....maybe!? Certainly nothing wrong with the sounds, recording or production.

BBB,

The only thing I can say is that you start by featuring the "smaller" drum and percussion sound and then bring in the big stuff. I think what this tends to do, to my ears anyway, is bring the focus to the smaller, higher pitched sounds, because those are the first things I hear. That's really just a composition choice, which is kind of the opposite or what I did, which was to start with the big, far away drums, and then fill in the "room" with the other players and having the smaller, closer sounds be the spice rather than something more featured like in yours. Having the smaller drums that present seems to take away from the "500 drummers" part of the listing.

I'm just guessing here! I've missed way more than I've hit, I got it this time, but I expect to miss again and like you may soon post here wondering what happened!

Keep swinging! :D

Cheers!

Mazz

Thanks for the feedback fellas. I really wasn't sure what approach to take but Mazz I think you're right, I probably should have started out bigger. Oh well, I'll hold on to the tracks and if another opportunity to pitch them comes along, I'll be ready to tweak if necessary.

thanks,

Hey Barry - I also suspect the lighter beginning sounds might be the culprit here. BUT - - - I missed this one too, and I started out with big sounds! So who knows? In any case, they were good pieces and I'm sure they'll come in handy somewhere down the line.

Barry, I bit it on this one too (my track "Victoria Nile"). And I think maybe the same thing -- we featured some close-mic'd stuff. It sounds cool! But I guess they wanted ONLY the big/multiple sounds.

I bet we find a home for these tracks elsewhere.

Rock on, my big blue brother!
