Questionable Return on S121107CH

So here is the critique on 2 returned childrens songs I submitted for this listing (listing description is below). The critique says that the only reason it wasn't forwarded is because the songs didn't meet the educational requirement BUT the listing says "QUOTING THE SOURCE: "We need kids songs and educational kids songs in various styles that are fun." So I submitted kids songs. I think the Taxi reviewer made a mistake by not seeing the word "AND" in the listing. The "source" obviously asked for kids songs AND educational kids songs.

What am I missing here???

-----------------------------
CRITIQUE:

Style: On target for this listing
"Music style meets the basic needs for this listing."

Overall Comments:
"Thank you Josh for the Taxi submission & for the chance to have heard your songs today. The songs have a charm & innocence that will appeal to many a youthful listener. The songs also lend themselves to audience participation due to the sing-along aspects of the Ch's. Music arrangements are well crafted & are fun to listen to. Vocals communicate the happy feelings and joy that are evident in the song's lyric messages. I enjoyed the listening experience and thank you again for the opportunity to have done so. All the best."

Sound Quality: Well-recorded
"Recorded sound meets the needs of this listing."

The main reason(s) you were or were not forwarded for this listing is:
"Sorry but I will be unable to forward your submission. The songs miss the Educational requirements that were specifically requested by an Independent Music Publishing company that pitches daily to Music Supervisors, Advertisers, Movie Houses, DVD distribution, Film Festivals and Extreme Sports. The lyric needed to be used as a teaching aid to market, for specified usage. As a result the criteria for a forward as set forth by the listing has not been met. Thank you,"

-----------------------

"S121107CH

CHILDRENS SONGS needed by an Independent Music Publishing company that pitches daily to Music Supervisors, Advertisers, Movie Houses, DVD distribution, Film Festivals and Extreme Sports. QUOTING THE SOURCE: "We need kids songs and educational kids songs in various styles that are fun." ORIGINAL SONGS ONLY, NO COVERS, NO Public Domain songs. Compositions must have clever, catchy melodies and fresh lyrics with a fun, original approach to the theme. Be sure your submissions demonstrate first rate songwriting ability, as well as excellent arranging, recording, performance, and production skills that are competitive in this genre. All submissions need to be Broadcast Quality (excellent home recordings are fine). Please submit two to three songs online or per CD (include lyrics.) All submissions will be screened and critiqued by TAXI and must be received no later than Wednesday, November 7, 2012. TAXI #S121107CH"

Doyle,

It sure does seem that maybe they missed that all to often ignored conjunction AND. I think this is a legitimate complaint. You should give Taxi a call on this one (or maybe one of the mods will forward it on). If you met everything sonically and kid friendly-wise, maybe this SHOULD be a forward.

Doesn't hurt to ask. :)

It could be argued that (AND) was used as a replacement for(that are also)so what they meant was, they need kids songs that have an educational element incorporated.

Just a thought.

Good point, Mick. But that ambiguity is sometimes painful when you're on the receiving end. :)

Mick: Yeah, I tried to see if there was another way that "We need kids songs and educational kids songs" could be interpreted but I'm just not seeing it. If there is one thing that Taxi is always preaching to us is to "READ THE LISTING!" and pay attention to the details that are in the listing.

I'll be the first to admit that I've messed up some previous listings that I've submitted to because I didn't read the listing description well enough but this is one instance that I can't see how I read it wrong.

Mick.

It could also be argued that you had to send 2 songs, a kid song and an educational kid's song. I mean it didn't say OR, it said and.
I agree it is questionable. Someone made a mistake.

Hey Len911,

You are probably kidding but we both know that is probably not the case. It's rare that they REQUIRE you to submit two different types of songs for a single listing but if they did I would hope it would be in ALL CAPS since it's such an unusual request. Plus the Taxi Screener would've mentioned this element in their Return critique.

I'm really looking forward to hearing what Phil finds out. I'm truly puzzled on this one.

Yes, I'm kidding, I agree with you, it's obvious from what the listing quoted and what was expected wasn't clear. I was just joining in the fun, though I'm sure it isn't a fun position to be in, not only all that work that went into your song, but also actually being spot on target with the screener saying as much. I don't think a submission fee refund or a free coupon would begin to compensate for the disappointment.
:( That's even worse than being close by a hair! I didn't want to pile on as Phil is looking into the matter, I probably shouldn't have said anything, but it's hard to resist being sarcastic when the opportunity arises.
