I wonder how you interpret the below listing?

Did they just mention Scofield and commercially appealing in the same brief? Are they looking for Norah Jones type of pop jazz, more smooth stuff like Fourplay? I guess I'm confused about the "commercially appealing" wording.. what does that mean in this context.. like built on a catchy repeating theme or phrase?

------

well sco works on two angles here:

a Go-go with MMW - commercially appealing shorter funkier songs, but with still a dark side.

Quiet - beautiful arrangements played on acoustic guitar with a nonet style instrumentation, kind of softer Birth of the cool influenced. (my words, not a reviewers, feel free to disagree)

i would say the second is closer, but sco always has a little quirk to me. not sure if that is what they are going for.

Yeah, I guess it's not the fusion stuff they want. Maybe the acoustic stuff, or something a la his latest album "A moments peace", which is more minimalistic. That would ring well with Joe Pass too. I have a hard time figuring the commercially appealing thing out, though.

Anyway, probably won't submit anything, but I have a resolution to work on my modal chops this year, so I will be working on some pieces a la this listing.
