Should be able to specify 'Stems Available' for some subs?

Hey everyone. What does everyone think about this... I recently submitted to the 'ghost hunters' listing with an instrumental piece. The listing stressed the importance of keeping it simple. I tried to do this, but the obvious temptation is to 'show off' a little with a few embellishments etc.. This got me thinking. .Obviously the editor/supervisor can request 'Stems' once they have decided to sync a piece of music, but the chances are that the Taxi Screener will reject a pitch which isn't keeping it simple as the iisting dictates, so the music may not ever reach the editor/supervisor. Bit of a dilemma, eh? Maybe we should be allowed to specify the fact that we can provide stems for submissions such as this? Or does this just complicate the whole thing? Would love to hear your thoughts, both members and taxi staff. P.S. this was my first submission since joining, and really enjoying just being part of taxi so far..and watching taxi tv catch-ups whenever I can. Thanks. Gary.

no real information coming in this reply....except that I feel your struggle with submitting.
Sometimes we hit the brief, and sometimes we miss a little.
Today I am sure that just about any recording will have "stems available" except for some modern live recordings done with few mics and many players, or vintage recordings with few mics or where the only thing that exists anymore is the 2-mix. So am not sure personally whether saying "stems available" would change much.
We can always fine tune a piece with more direction - but this system works on the "give us your best shot and we'll pick the ones that are closest".
Of course - you can submit more than one piece - or even more than one version of a piece. Costs you an extra $5 - I guess that is the cost of CYA in your own mind.

Yep, I've done that twice that I can think of, and got forwards both times... but not both versions.

Hi Gary
For better or worse, when it comes to these submissions, it's about how the track you submit sounds "as is", not what it "could be" if this or that instrument was removed, this alt mix was made, etc.
So the best thing to do is take your best shot at 1-2 stem/alt-mixes that meet the criteria in the listing and submit those.
Nothing wrong with adding comments in the lyrics box that additional stems/alt mixes/edits are available but the screener has to go with whether what they hear meets the listing criteria or not.
Good luck!

Casey
