Question about nuance and context.

Quick question. THere's a jazz-listing I might be interested to do. However I'm not sure I fully understand one of the sentences in the listing. When they say "We don't want a solo-instrument..", what does that exactly mean?
a.) We don't want a solo-instrumental
b.) We don't want a solo-instrument in the music ( which is the case in almost the entire piece in on of their references)

“This is for a scene in the Hollywood Hills were someone gets knifed, so it should set the background tone for this violent, dark scene. We don’t want a solo instrument, rather, small ensemble Jazz played well, but without being too present."
I have a fitting piece and I play saxophone so this could be a fun for me. Sorry if this question is a bit stupid for some but just want to be sure to fully understand the listing.
Cheers
