left-of-center ??

So I was looking at listing TAXI #Y150619HH and didn't quite get what left-of-center meant... Any ideas anyone?

Here's the description of it...

"UNDERGROUND HIP-HOP INSTRUMENTAL CUES are needed by a NON-Exclusive Music Licensing Company with a direct connection to several Music Supervisors of Popular Reality TV Shows. Please submit left-of-center, Down-to-Mid-Tempo sounding Cues that are in the general stylistic wheelhouse of acts like Run The Jewels, Danny Brown, Atmosphere, etc., etc., etc. Give them Cues that are brimming with swagger, and an overall sound that's slightly left-of-center. Your submissions should revolve around a central melodic motif, and build momentum by adding and subtracting different instruments to make your Cues interesting as they progress."

Pointers will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Hmmm, never heard of right-wing hip hop, in fact haven't heard much hip hop at all. So for it to be left of center,??

Underground... I turned on the tv late last week to watch the Daily Show while I ate my supper, and it was a few minutes before the show started and this came on:

I've been trying to get this not only out of my head, but from singing it at all, but left of center for hip hop, I'm guessing it might be,lol!

I looked at that one too.

I've spun a bit of Atmosphere years ago, and to me it sounded "indie" hip hop (assuming there is such a thing), which to me is like less "production quality" and more "real instruments", and beats that are more homegrown. Never mind raps cause its instrumental, but they tend to be more meaningful and intelligent, maybe introspective

I harken back to Digable Planets and early Fugees for early indie hip hop. That said, I'm NO EXPERT AT ALL, so take it for what it is…

Still, here are some tunes that got mad requests at the clubs I DJ, so maybe check 'em if you're doing some listening:

"Baby Daddy" by Hopsin
"Gampo" by Prof

In listening to the a-la's for this listing, I've noticed that they are stuff that is somewhere between Underground HipHop and Trip-Hop.
Pay attention to the "swagger" requirement.

It's been a while since I was really into hip hop (we called it rap back then), but I read left of center to mean weird. Like the drug induced sounding stuff (and not weed). They're probably not looking for Kanye West or Drake style "radio friendly" for this listing. I'm thinking more of a hypnotic trance feel.

I'm thankful to this listing for introducing me to Run The Jewels. Great stuff.

My spotify play list for studying this is Run the Jewels, Danny Brown, Earl Sweatshirt, Ab-Soul, SpaceGhostPump.

But I'm going for more the "swagger"

Atmosphere and their sound-alikes seemed kinda like non-swagger outliers... BUT certainly "left of center"

Sounds like "Gwan" could be pretty close to this listing. I'd pull the girl out, though. It would make it unusable I think.
