NEW LISTING -- CONTEMPORARY INSTRUMENTALS in a somewhat wide range of Genres, Tempos, and Moods are needed for the Director of Music at an A-List Advertising Agency that specializes in big TV Commercials and big budget Hollywood Movie Trailers. We’ve finally been given an open door to impress her with what our members are capable of, so we’re ONLY pitching them Commercial oriented Instrumentals at this time. We’ll run a separate Trailer listing in the weeks to come.
The Music Supervisor gave us the “thumbs up” to give her some high-quality Instrumentals she can keep in her personal “stash” for upcoming projects. It’s very likely that when they license music for projects that you will keep all ownership, and you’ll get paid a creative/licensing fee, but we can’t absolutely guarantee that.
It would be very unusual that an Ad Agency would get any publishing, but it IS typical that they won’t allow the piece to be used for any other products or commercials for some specified period of time. Fees can range from a few thousand dollars, up to tens of thousands of dollars, depending on the ultimate use.
Please listen to the following references to get a few ideas of just some of the possibilities for styles that could work for this pitch:
“Audi A5 Sportback 2013 HD Dealer Promo” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sooTmlSWaRQ
“Light, Strong, Nike Fluknit” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SJn64kkpOSc
“T-Mobile Family Plan” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-1uVHFr8AA4
Before you submit, it might be a good idea to watch a whole bunch of commercials for big companies and products to get some more ideas! Please submit super well-crafted Instrumental Cues that range from edgy and hip; to positive, light, fun and emotionally upbeat; to inspiring and heartwarming, and just about anything else that you would expect to hear in a high-end TV Commercial. Avoid anything that’s dark or moody! Avoid it like the plague!
Note: Two of the references have do vocals in them. We are NOT looking for music with vocals for this pitch, but non-lyrical “voices” could be okay.
TAXI Tip: What we’re going to be looking for when screening these submissions are Instrumentals that will make these uber-cool, trendsetting creative geniuses say, “Now that’s freakin’ awesome, and I’ve got the perfect Commercial I can use this for!”
Don’t give them anything that sounds like a bunch of stuff they’ve heard before. They can find that all day long. We want to give them music that makes TAXI the first place they come when they’re looking for new music!
That said, you’ve got to walk that fine line of, “This is really cool and cutting edge,” and “Yeah, I can see this working for viewers in the Fly-Over States.” Ad Agencies are prone to loving music that makes them look cool to their clients, but isn’t SO far out that it won’t work for Joe Average American. Sometimes that’s in the form of a piece that sounds like a current hit record, other times it sounds like the edgy Nike commercial we’ve used as a reference above. No matter which path you choose, quality is the name of the game.
The quality of your samples, sounds and instruments have to be excellent as well, and your production needs to sound ready-to-go -- like it could be used tomorrow, because it very well could be!
All submissions should be at least 2 minutes in length. Easy edit points and buttoned/stinger endings are somewhat desirable, but not absolutely necessary in the world of advertising. It all depends on the type of music you’re creating. An atmospheric piece might not lend itself to edit points, whereas an EDM track would! Please DO NOT copy or rip off the referenced music in any way, shape, or form. Use it only as a broad, general guide. They’re NOT looking for clones by any stretch of the imagination! They’re looking for fresh, new, and useable! Also, please avoid any material with unauthorized samples of other artists’ music, sounds, or any other form of media. Broadcast Quality is needed (Great sounding home recordings are fine).
All deals will be made on a case-by-case basis, depending on the ultimate use.
Note: If you are forwarded for this Listing, just know that your piece could sit in this Supervisor’s stash and never get used (yes, you can still pitch it for other things), or it could get used in 6 days, 6 months, or 6 years! There’s just no way to know when or if the stars will align in your favor. But being in the Supervisor’s “stash” of personal favorites is where you want your music to be!
Please submit one to three Instrumentals online or per CD. All submissions will be screened on a Yes/No basis by a TAXI screener - No full critiques. Submissions must be received no later than 11:59PM (PDT), on Wednesday, October 14th, 2015. TAXI #U151014CI
