return due to edit points being to "edity"?

Got a couple of Trip Hop returns today, here's one.

The comment was "Very cool piece of music but the track pauses and restarts unevenly."

Should I let reverb ring through an edit point, or should edit points be dead silent? I regularly struggle with how to musically add edit points to styles that are mellow or feature a lot of sustain (trip hop, chill, relaxing, tension cues, etc.).

Hi Paulie,

I don't know much about edit points but I think they are mostly fine. Although the second one is pretty quick after the first one.

However, I can see how they would say it is abrupt. Not because it is out of time but it does sound kind of abrupt. I think this is the loop or the cut that is in use.

Then again, it may also be just because the second edit point is only a few seconds after the first that throws off the listener.

Hope that is useful.

Yeah, not sure why I did that. I usually try to put edits at 0:29 and 0:59. In this track I put one at 29 and 45 and another at 1:09. Must have been sleep deprived or something. :-)

Yeah, you only have to go so far in helping out the video editor; the suggestion of a dropout is all she needs to make the cut. It seldom sounds natural to take the track down to total silence. Meanwhile you've got a kinda cool cracklin' vinyl effect which would naturally continue with just some groove/surface noise across any breaks; get it? Total digital black is often used for effect in many styles of EDM as a catchall for D'N'B, electronica, trip-hop, dubstep and all the myriad variations, but in this particular case the two effects are working at cross-purposes.

Yep Mojo... I debated the silence over the vinyl scratch. #StillLearning #Edits101

Paulie. Do the edit points get in the way of the creativity at times? I put them in where I see it fits but I don't want them to disrupt the piece I'm writing. I've not tried 30 60 90 seconds edits. Maybe I should.
