Confused about Rally Panel Listings

Hi All,

The new listing for the Rally panel, does this replace the other way of submitting? Not sure what is meant by "backups". Or do we still put cds in the drop boxes? And if we submit to the listing is it $5 each song?

Thank you!

Best,
Linda C

Hey Linda!
Yes we will still drop CDs into the boxes at the Rally as well...
These Pre-Submissions are a SAFETY for Taxi and the panelists
Each panelist will be a Professional whose TIME is valuable
The risk is: What if all of the randomly drawn music is too Low Bar to be viable in the market place?
That's where the Pre-Submissions would jump in and save the day with marketable quality tunes for them to review

This is my best guess (or at least how I read the email)
Very Smart in my opinion...
Cass

You got it right Cass. Just possible backups in case we randomly pull a bunch of less-than-impressive stuff from the boxes. Some years we pull a bunch of great stuff, some years we don't. Members have expressed concern that when we don't, the panelists may go home with a wrong impression of our members' music.

We may not even have to use the backups, but it's our best idea to solve the problem should it arise.

see you soon,
ML

I think this is a great idea. Looking forward to hearing all of the submissions!

But these submissions are still $5 a pop?

Thank you all for the reply! Guess I'll just shoot for the drop box as not sure if mine would be accepted as a backup!

See you there!

Yup... But think about it. Taxi still has to pay screeners to screen these submissions so it makes sense (to me). And they did a great job of total disclosure of the risk/possible benefit when submitting. Also, they will be limiting the number of times they dig into this pile so on 4 listening panels, the majority of the tracks played will be from the CD drop boxes. It works for me. :D

It will be interesting to see how they decide if a randomly drawn track isn't cutting it. Hopefully diplomacy prevails! :D

After driving around and thinking about it... 8-)
Could be a better idea to announce an automatic 75% random draw and 25% Submissions (or some other percentage)
That way it doesn't become awkward to make a transition and also cuts out the possibility of Hurt Feelings from attendees...

No awkward transition required. I don't have to say anything like, "Wow, those last four really sucked, let's hear some good stuff." I'll simply ask my DJ something like, "Tom, can you play a couple of the pieces we had the screeners filter?"

Hopefully, I won't have to play them at all.

best,
Michael
