Got a return today, stupid, stupid, stupid. <Chris Farley character>

Sumbitted a previously forwarded dramedy track to a new listing that was still in my Taxi profile. Failed to check the track length... the new listing required at least two minutes, while most of the listings I submit to want 90 seconds for cues and 2-4 minutes for songs. Screener liked the track, but it was 30 seconds short of the listing requirement.

Reality, I've got tons of 90 second tracks in libraries and I bet the client wouldn't care, but my bad for not verifying the track length. Hate the chance to meet a new library, but live and learn... :)

Most placemetns are way less than 90s. I think it happened one time only that an entire cue got used

As a matter of interest, as I've got myself into a habit of writing entire tracks (which is probably unnecessary), what constitutes a cue rather than a piece of music?

I've watched someone on one of the Youtube video's describe it, but I'm none the wiser really.

If you were to distil the fundamentals of a "cue" into a few bullet points, what would they be? I think that's what I need to start doing, rather than banging out Magnum Opus'!

90 - 120s

Little or no intro

Structre something like A - A- A -A or maybe throw a B section or two in

2 -3 edit points

Button or stinger ending that ends on tonic

Constantly evolving arrangement that Changes every 4 bars to give options to an editor

Builds up..breaks down...then builds again towards final section which is fullest most impactful part of the cue

This is genuinely helpful beyond belief.

Going to get this printed and stuck on my wall!
