Question about a listing please

I have a question about this listing which I was going to write a few things for.NEW LISTING -- ALT ROCK/INDIE POP INSTRUMENTALS in the stylistic range of Muse, Franz Ferdinand, The Killers, Bloc Party, etc. are sought after by a Major Music Publisher with distribution through a huge Production Music Library. This Publisher is also an Emmy-winning Composer for daytime television and this is a fantastic opportunity to be introduced to a Publishing/Licensing relationship as well as the possibilities of future composition projects with a VERY successful industry pro. Excellent original tracks, performances and recordings are a must! These tracks shouldn't be too dark or heavy — think fun, uplifting, exciting... a little quirky is fine for this one as well. This Publisher will be looking to sign 8-12 tracks for an upfront "buyout" fee that will be in the $2K range. While it will be an exclusive purchase of the material, this Publisher will not take any portion of your writer's share. He won't be looking for custom compositions, but rather a collection of "B" material-tracks that are laying dormant in your catalog. While we can be a bit more liberal for this one, you'll want to be sure that the tracks themselves are very well written and the recordings are Broadcast Quality. This material will be pitched primarily to Film/TV projects. Please submit 2-3 instrumentals online or per CD, but be prepared to send more if the Publisher gets in touch with you. He will ultimately be interested in signing 8-12 tracks for the buyout fee mentioned above. All submissions will be screened and critiqued by TAXI and must be received no later than February 17, 2009. TAXI # S090217AR My problem with this listing is that when I listened to the examples, Muse & F.F. sound like much current music out there today. This is not a problem. The other two, The Killers and Bloc Party both sound like they came straight out of the 80s New Wave scene. This is also not a problem. My problem is that I don't want to be returned because the things I submit sound either too current or too old. Its a double whammy. Not only that, what is "B" material. Everything I do is done the best that I can do it... Can anyone give me a little input on what is desired here?I should state here that I am pretty new to TAXI and I'm working at this pretty hard at the moment. Any advice would be really appreciated.

Hi t4mh,Usually what you want to do with the listings that have a wide range of artists is check out their most popular tracks and try to find common elements in them. Also, if 4 bands are mentioned and 2 bands had one type of sound and the other 2 had a totally different type of sound then you could do 2 tracks in those two styles.I personally believe that if you have a good track that is in the style of any of the mentioned bands, you will get a forward. The "B" material thing was talked about in another thread. I personally think that this publisher is wanting 8-12 tracks that are ready to go...he doesn't want to have you do custom work (as the listing states). So its not that he wants "lesser" material necessarily, he just wants material that you have sitting around ready to go.That is just my personal interpretation of it...you could call taxi to clarify. I'm sure they will have a better "interpretation" than mine In any case, I wouldn't submit any "B" material to any listing. Submit the best music you can -Steve

SteveThanks for your comments. We are of the same mind on the subject and "how to". What you explained is what I planned on doing. Its just an odd sort of combination...Anyway, thanks again and good luck!Keith
