I working on some stuff for this - I have a few questions.TOP 40 POP/ROCK INSTRUMENTALS a la Matchbox Twenty, Maroon 5, Five for Fighting, etc. are wanted by a very successful Production Music Library who has placements with ABC, CBS, NBC, WB, Disney, Discovery, Lifetime, Fox, USA, etc. (to name just a few). They want tracks that build and grow, with melodic and dynamic variation, for a variety of Film/TV placement opportunities — they need to quickly add to their catalog in this genre. You may consider editing down a full-length song in order to avoid long sections of repetition, since this company NEEDS to have tracks that are changing & building constantly. You can submit tracks that range between 1-4 minutes in length and be sure there are NO VOCALS — they'll be focused on the sound of the guitars/drums for this one (be sure they sound authentic and current!). They want material that sounds like it could be on the radio, but will only be interested in Instrumental versions for this listing. Broadcast quality is necessary, though excellent home recordings should be fine. Please submit 1-3 Instrumentals online or per CD. All submissions will be screened on a YES/NO BASIS — NO CRITIQUES FROM TAXI — and must be received no later than February 18, 2009.TAXI # Y090218PR I usually right with vocals in mind so this is kind of new ground for me. I am debating on using the piano as a lead instrument. I know drums and guitars are important but am I to take this that the instrument carrying the melody is to be guitar?Also do they want a song or constantly changing morphing thing with no continuity? Thanks for all the feedback! It will help greatly!No really! When they mention sounds like Matchbox 20 or Maroon 5 to me I take that as something that sounds like it could be on the radio, something that sound like those bands HITS. 3am, Push, M5s first big piano based pop hit, etc.Agree?

Hey Jennifer,Yes...I think you're on the right track.I would say you may not have to have a guitar or piano replace the vocal note for note. Think in terms of a Matchbox 20 song with the vocals muted.Of course you don't want to leave any holes and they mention melodic and dynamic variation.I'm sure you've heard this type of instrumental on lots of shows.All you can do is give it a shot and learn from the critique.Good luck!
