Last Min "King of the Hill" comments please

Post by fidgetyfeet » Sat Sep 06, 2008 2:29 pm

Hi all,It appears this listing was hard to resist. I've listened to the tracks on the other posts, and they're all really good. Our problem is the closest thing to a World Beat around here is the sound of a wood splitter. Are these “World Beat” enough… at all? (WB1, WB2, WB3) on our taxi page. http://www.taxi.com/bickerinbrothersWe’re going to mix these tracks tomorrow afternoon and would like your comments and suggestions. ThanksMike

I think wb3 is the closest one to what this listing asks for. My computer speakers at home sounds really bad, but I just got the feeling that these songs were a bit midi generated? Maybe adding some live instruments would do the trick? I do believe that the song is good enough in my opinion. It's really hard to tell what they are looking for exactly. My best advice is to listen to the artists mentioned in the listing.

Hi Mike,I'm with Orest here, the compositions are very good, but the pieces sound pretty obviously MIDI generated. From listening to some of your other stuff, it sounds like you guys have the chops to add some live guitar, keys and percussion to this and tone down the MIDI generated stuff in the mix. Like Orest said, adding a "live" instrument can really help.Good luck,Mazz

imagine if John Williams and Trent Reznor met at Bernard Hermann's for lunch and Brian Eno was the head chef!

Orest & Mazz,Thanks to you both for taking the time to share your expertise. You’re both absolutely right, it’s all midi. WB3 is the one that got all the attention. The other two we’re last minute lottery tickets.Over the past year or so the three of us have built our own DAWs. Steve just finished his set up and got a decent internet connection last week. This listing was a perfect experiment for us because the project files were so small we could email them back and forth easily. We had plans to add acoustic and electric guitars, but never found time, settling for a phony sitar and a clarinet. We only got together physically yesterday to mix them. It was fun, but not our NOP. I have to admit we are dazzled by all these shiny objects that we suddenly have access to. I’m just talking about stock stuff that comes with Cubase. Children have a tendency to go overboard with new toys and this listing gave us the perfect excuse. It would be nice to get a forward but at worst we’ve got some new ideas to work with. Thanks againMike
