Dave and Raags, sitting in a tree...

Post by davewalton » Tue Aug 12, 2008 5:58 am

Hoping for a forward for her and me... www.DaveWaltonMusic.com/MyMusic/ORePiya.mp3One "issue" might be the placement of the vocal track(s). Raags sung it right but when I placed it, Sonar "erased" the visual of the vocal track (I can't see where the audio starts or ends... it's just a straight line ). So let me know if you guys think the vocals sound "out of pocket" anywhere. I've listened too much and now I can't tell about anything. Quote:A wide variety of original and authentic-sounding TRADITIONAL & CONTEMPORARY INDIAN SONGS & INSTRUMENTALS are being sought by an established Music Library/Publisher that has worked with TAXI for years. They exclusively supply songs/tracks to numerous Cable TV shows -- mostly cooking and travel shows -- and need new material to meet their clients' needs. They want all styles related to the COUNTRY of INDIA and that region of Asia -- from Indian Classical to Indian Folk to Indian Pop (they're NOT seeking Native American Indian music). Indian lyrics are highly preferred, but English lyrics are fine. Male or female vocals are ok, and Instrumentals are also accepted. Great performances are essential. This company typically offers exclusive deals. Your songs must be Broadcast Quality (excellent sounding home recordings are OK). Please submit one to three songs online or per CD, include lyrics (and lyrical translations). All submissions will be screened and critiqued by TAXI and must be received no later than August 12, 2008.TAXI # S080812IS

Sonar... heheHey the timing sits pretty good. It might be a bit lazy, behind the groove. If you're pitching to meditative listings, it's probably perfect. If you're pitching it to anything else that's simply calling for generic Middle Eastern Flavor stuff, you might want to advance the vocals 40-60 ms, you'll get a little more energy. And maybe add a tambourine or more jingly stuff, if you want the extra energy. Did Raags do all this by herself and then send you just a stereo file all comped & everything? This is a beautiful piece of work Dave, made me put down my coffee and close my eyes to enjoy it! And think of a butter stick...Aug 12, 2008, 8:58am, davewalton wrote:Hoping for a forward for her and me... www.DaveWaltonMusic.com/MyMusic/ORePiya.mp3One "issue" might be the placement of the vocal track(s). Regardless, she sent me some vocals, what is now the verse (her solo voice in a major key, then harmony to a minor key) as two separate ideas... "Which one do you like for the chorus?". I said I didn't like either one for the chorus but stringing them back-to-back for the verse sounds awesome! So that's where it started. Then we sent a couple of melody ideas back-and-forth for the chorus and she came up with the chorus melody you hear now (the song opens with the chorus). Then the little "O Re Piya" bridge was the last thing we did.In the end, I did the music bed from beginning to end with no vocals, she sang to that and sent me the vocal tracks. I plopped them in, flipped the magic switch and the next thing you know... instant song! I'm playing around with advancing the vocals a tad...Thanks!Dave

As a "wide variety" listing, lets hope for a wide variety of forwards for all of us! I have to mention that the last time I submitted to a "wide variety of Indian music" listing, I got all of my tracks returned. This was days before last years Rally where I was a panelist for one of the sessions titled "The Secret Sauce To Getting More Forwards". It'll probably be another decade before I get another "VIP" Rally badge. Life has a funny way of keeping my ego in check sometimes.
