Contemporary Jazz Instumental Vocals. .... Right.

A listing due this week ask for Contemporary Jazz Instrumentals ... styles, moods, tempo can vary..."
Without any ALA's .... do I go with Ornette Coleman or with Kenny G??? Ok, I'm exagerating here (like I haven't done that a thousand times.) Acid Jazz is contemporary. So is smooth jazz. And better yet, the listing also says "' Vocal and instrumental presentation must be top notch." Vocals on an instrumental listing? That means I can scat?! Scoobie do-wah, be pob a de bop.
I find the screeners usually set the bar extremely high for jazz stuff (a nice way of saying they are really, really picky).
MY QUESTION: without any ALA's ... does that really mean the door is a bit wider that a listing with ALAs??
