Dispatch question

Hello friends. I have a question for dispatch members. I just signed up for dispatch a week ago. I have only seen underscore type requests so far. I do mostly urban and pop music. The request in the normal listings for those type of cues/songs is very very frequent and I have been blessed to have great success with them so far. I signed up for dispatch hoping for a lil "extra", and to give myself even more chances for some good listings. For those who have been around dispatch a while, are the urban type listings about as frequent as they are in the regular listings? Or is it mostly underscore type cues? Or really....is it totally random? I know I'm only a week in, but i gotta admit I'm a little nervous I may have jumped the gun a bit with disptach. Thanks so much for any advice/opinions..

It really varies month to month. There are a lot of instrumentals in the Dispatch listings, give it some time to play out. It truly depends on what the market is demanding. Hip Hop and Tension are really hot right now, but so are Christmas songs. It's not as fast of a turnaround as I originally thought it would be when I signed up last year, but I like having the extra listings as options.

I've only been on it for a little under a month Marcus, and I've found so far only one thing that I wanted to submit to.

Mostly so far it has been orchestral and underscore stuff rather than 'song instrumentals' (which is more up my ally as I find it quick and easy to do).

As Paulie says, it probably opens up as the market requirements change.

I just went through my inbox. So far in 2016 there have been 116 Dispatch emails sent out in 230 days. That's almost exactly one every other day. I created this image from screenshots to give you an idea of the different listings. This is every Taxi Dispatch email header for 2016 so far, I see pretty much every style imaginable in there. :) And to be clear, this list does not include the twice monthly regular listings. These are only emails from the Taxi dispatch email address.

GEEZUZ, Paul! With those admin skills you're a sure ringer for some sort of position somewhere as someone's secretary. :o

Hmmmmm.... I have a database in need of data entry....

WOW! Talk about in depth! Thanks so much Paulie! This was very kind and helpful of you. Maybe I did jump the gun on dispatch.. only 4 or 5 I would've gone for out of 116 since January is a very low percentage. I probably should've asked this question before joining... Hmmmmm

Well, Marcus, those 4 or 5 are opportunities you wouldn't get any other way, eh?

Thanks for the response Russell! You are absolutely right. That's why I signed up. Even if it's only 1, as long as it's the right one. I guess I was just hoping for some more urban requests in dispatch since there are so many in the regular listings. That was what I made my decision based on - which may have been where the mistake was made....not asking you guys first... But I'm in for the ride.. i trust the path. Thanks all for the responses!

Hey Marcus, I don't know how I've spaced tell you about this in our recent emails back and forth, but the Dispatch service has been great to me. I'm at school right now, so I don't have access to my spreadsheets where I track everything, but a BUNCH of the deals that I've made through Taxi have all come from Dispatch forwards. In fact, I'd say it's something like 70% of all my Taxi deals have been from Dispatch rather than regular listings.

The reason, I think, is these companies are under the gun to get music very quickly, and so if Taxi gives them something and the company likes it, they'll reach out asap. Rather than regular listings which might not be time-sensitive to the company which ran the listing, and therefore might languish on a library owner's desk for a while (months or even years) until they reach out to the composers.

So, even though there might be a minimal amount of urban Dispatch listings right now, don't feel like you've made a bad decision. Because if you get forwards there - in my experience - you're much more likely to get a deal.

In fact, there was a stretch a few years ago where it seemed like every Dispatch forward I received resulted in a deal. So much, that when I got the forward email from Taxi, I could almost bet on getting contacted by the library within a week or two.

Plus, it'll prompt you to try some genres you'd never thought of doing before, like alt-country, acapella, spooky, or backwoods redneck.

$150 well worth it, in my opinion!

~~Matt
