Don't me wrong, everyone: Coltrane is one of my greatest musical heroes. That said, when I see 'Trane's My Favorite Things as a reference and hear his unfettered wailing in the upper register of his soprano sax in the middle of his solo, I can't help but to think how neatly this would fit underneath dialog.

Obviously the reference is relying more on the name "Coltrane" as fad movement than what John Coltrane's music was actually about. I've seen several of the Taxi song references do this so far. The majority of what I see outside the dispatch offers are Pop and Hip Hop.

Is there a risk here that your specialism, and specialist interest, are distorting the way you might otherwise approach the listing? For example, could you take the same part and do it in a lower register on a softer instrument? It might compromise the integrity of the piece, the artist's oeuvre or even the genre ("They'd never play that in a lower register / on that instrument!") but might capture the mood the listing is after and fit better under dialogue?

I'm merely underlining the A La, saying that there's' so much to choose from, there's no need in questioning the example. Unless you're referencing a Coltrane ballad, expect a rain of notes-- which almost virtually excludes one from landing a placement.

That said, all 5 of my submissions were forwarded on this one! Yeah, I get what they're asking for, regarding the vibe.

I always wonder about that when they list Coltrane as an a la. There's the whole "too busy to be used under dialogue" concern.
