I submitted for this dispatch ( see lower )....Although it sounds nothing like John Denver's song ( musically ), it does speak of the benefits of the country/nature so I'm giving it a go...If some of you have any thoughts on my tune : "Country Cabin Hideaway"...Let me know...Here's the link to listen ( the lyrics are at bottom of page) : http://www.taximusic.com/song.php?song_ ... &stream=1A FOLK-POP/ROCK SONG a la JOHN DENVER’s “COUNTRY ROAD” (found on many of his greatest hits releases) is needed by the Music Supervisor of a new major network TV show that’s a cross between “Curb Your Enthusiasm” and “Entourage.” They need the right song for a montage scene where two of the characters are playing around in an apartment while pretending to be outside in the country, enjoying nature. Think nostalgic, light, amiable, and a bit quirky. Lyrically, he needs a similar theme to “Country Road.” No profanity, please. MALE VOCALS ONLY. They’re offering a license fee of about $6000-$8000 for this cue. Broadcast quality needed [excellent-sounding home recordings are OK]. Please submit one to three songs online or per CD, include lyrics. All submissions will be screened on a YES/NO BASIS ONLY - NO CRITIQUES FROM TAXI. For ground submissions, please enclose a S.A.S.E. if you would like a response. As always, we will notify everyone via e-mail, whether your submissions have been Forwarded or Returned. Submissions must be received no later than 12:00 NOON, Pacific Standard Time (California time), Monday, Dec. 10, 2007. mike,Nice bluesy song, VERY cool voice... but I don't hear the Denver country folk connection. I do, however, feel some Michael Buble stuff happening here. And as luck would have it, there's another listing where this song might fit rather nicely. Something to consider."twilsbach" just introduced it to the forum: ADULT CONTEMPORARY ARTISTS are sought by an Independent Music Distributor that represents North America that wishes to license completed CDs from talented artists from around the world. Think along the lines of Michael Buble, Sarah McLachlan, Josh Groban, Annie Lennox, Sting, Natalie Merchant, Seal, etc. Great performances are a must, especially vocally.Good luck with dispatch, Silence ...jus' wanted to add that the song ends nicely on "country cabin hideaway." So, IMO (personal taste), I don't think you need the full gospel breakdown at the very end to wrap your song up in style.

Thanks for the feedback Silence !...Like I said , I know it doesn't sound anything like John Denver's Country Roads musically...But the message does celebrate the country and country living etc. And some of the chord changes are similar to Otis'- Dock Of The Bay...So I think it has a certain pop/rock feel too...But it does come from a blues album I did in 1999...So it's probably not quite on target...We'll see I guess... I've been told alot about the Micheal Bublé voice thing ( I guess that's good )...But I don't see this tune fitting the listing you mentioned...I fear my stuff is too bluesy and they want more of a pop artist...Thanks for the suggestion though.. MG

I didn't get mine quite finished in time.It still needs to be mastered and I planned a little acoustic guitar lead that I didn't get to...I took the 'quirky' direction and interpreted it in the lyric which is why I'm "blowing kisses to the squirrels' Country Time (still digitizing, might not be there yet)Not quite heaven, is where I'm goingJust leafy trees and in the land of sky blue waterMaking up a memory of growing up hereGrass Keeps gettin' greener, soaking up the sunSnow capped mountainsOn a winding riverI've seen the bright lightsstill I can't find nothing betterThan country timeBig sky opens up I feel at homeBack yards, barns and time to burn I'm homeMisty Momma its countrytime lets go, lets goEverything's alive hereField's all full of crittersI harmonize the birdsong, blow kisses to the squirrelsWaterfalls and MountainsI can never get enough ofWith the waving what I'm shaking hands helloSnow Capped Mountains, on a winding riverI've seen the bright lights, still I can't find nothing betterThan country timeBig sky opens up I feel at homeBack yards, barns and time to burn I'm homeMisty Momma its countrytime lets go, lets go

Hey Mike- GREAT sounding track. Smooth production and great vocals. I have to agree with Silence, however, that I don't hear a John Denver vibe in there, but that song has a right to be placed somewhere. Good Work.twilsbach- I wrote a track named "Country Time" for this listing too! Not that "Country Time" is all that obscure a title, I suppose. When I saw this listing on Friday I got really excited and managed to get two tracks recorded and submitted by the deadline (Country Time, and Country Living On My Mind). Those dispatch listings can certainly be motivational. (The tracks have been uploaded to my Taxi page, but they weren't yet ready to play when I posted this reply.) Yours wasn't encoded for listening when I checked, but I'll come back and check it out.

By the way twilsbach, I really noticed the influence of the the original "Take Me Home, Country Roads" in your lyrics. Well played--

Well I guess I should not have sent that tune in ( even though it speaks of the country and such)...I should have called Taxi to ask if the music style HAD to be in the vain of the John Denver classic...I could have easily put the same type of drum beat and tempo, removed that great horn intro and electric guitar solo and made it more country/ folkish.... I foolishly thought that the tune itself and message would do it...I'll know better next time...

And if you studied that listing like I did, then you realize it leaves open the possibility that the John Denver "Country Road" influence may have only been desired in the lyric. Not much is really said about the music end of things - just nostalgic, light, and a bit quirky (and I'm not even sure those words refer to the music).By the way, I DID call Taxi and ask that very same question. I was told that they were open to any style from the 70's folk-ish John Denver feel to something more current sounding. So I'd say "don't start second-guessing yourself just yet."
