As I'm sure is the case with lots of you, I often work through my anger and grief by songwriting. I'd love to get your thoughts on this song, and if anyone is interested in putting it to music and singing it, please let me know.
It Was Just Another Day
She put on her ballet slippers
And refused to comb her hair
All the better, she insisted
For dancing through the air
We were late as always
Mornings aren’t our thing
She blew a kiss from the doorway
As the bell began to ring
It was just another day
No cause for alarm
It was just another day
Who’d think they could ever come to harm
He counted down the hours
‘Til the movie came around
He texted all his friends
And they planned to meet downtown
He wore a mask and cape
And agreed he was a nerd
Parting words for mom
I’ll be fine is what she heard
It was just another day
No cause for alarm
It was just another day
Who’d think they could ever come to harm
She had a chance to talk to voters
And she wanted to be heard
Way too many issues
In this ever-changing world
So much to remember
As she scanned the growing crowd
Had she called her husband
She knew he’d be so proud
It was just another day
No cause for alarm
It was just another day
Who’d think they could ever come to harm
Boys rode bikes in Columbine
In Blacksburg, students read into the night
Bankers drank coffee in Seattle
In Oakland, they waited at a traffic light
Men worshiped at the Oak Creek temple
In Fort Hood, soldiers sat around the mess
Moms bought groceries in Tulsa
Red Lake girls awaited recess
Keyboards clicked at Fort Worth desks
In Portland, families had a shopping spree
The dads read papers in Atlanta
In Omaha, they bought a Christmas tree
It was just another day…
In Newtown
It was just another day…
In Aurora
It was just another day…
In Tucson
It was just another day…
In Gun Town, USA

Re: Song inspired by Newtown
Hi This is a very touching song which should be sung to every congressman in America.I like the way you put in a lot of different news stories and kept the chorus consistent. It reminds me of Alan Jacksons song about 911. I think it was called September Morn, but I'm not sure. Anyway. All the best and good luck.
