Ladder to Forevermore

Ladder to Forevermore ©2022 Robert George BMI

There’s a stone pillow
Where a lost and lonely pilgrim laid his weary head
He had dreams of heaven while upon his dusty bed

Our Savior gives us hope and faith because
He beheld a world worth dying for
Our Master knew in time, like that pilgrim’s dreams we’d climb
A ladder to forevermore

There’s a lone willow
And with outstretched arms it wept upon the desert sands
Both its desp’rate tears and lonely thirst resemble man’s

Our Savior drank a bitter cup because
He beheld a world worth dying for
Heaven knew our sins and guilt, with His blood and tears it built
A ladder to forevermore

A ladder to forevermore

All my heart had ever found
When I looked upon the ground
Was the final destiny
Of a sinner not yet free

Our Savior shines eternal light because
He beheld a world worth dying for
Now my eyes are free from scales, I can see the wood and nails
Of a ladder to forevermore

A ladder to forevermore
To forevermore…

Well written. Will there be melody & a song for these words?
I have a piece titled "Stones In The River" (actually, it should be "Stones From The River")
but I've not put it to music yet.

Hi, Pete. If I can find a composer who can sing and put together a decent demo, there will, haha.

Well... at least you've inspired me to go make some edits to my own lyrics -
then maybe see about it being a song.
I don't have home-recording skills, so any production's gotta be worth the pocket-expense & investment...
even if it's just gonna be a Soundcloud presentation added to the funsongs collection.
:? :P time to go get busy.

Hello SpecialGuestVillian
In my opinion, your lyrics are appealing for a number of reasons which I will attempt to describe. I have only got back into music of the past one or two years, so please bear with me if at least some of what I say is stating the obvious.
My observations are:-
1. The form is Verse 1, Chorus 1, Verse 2, Chorus 2, Middle 8, Chorus 3, Outro, which is a good and basically solid structure
2. The listener is presented with identifiable scenes from the outset - strong visual imagery - in my view, another type of image (such as a sound, like the howling wind, or the feel of the sting of desert sand on the face, etc.), would draw the listener in even more) - I particularly like the diction which you use - stone pillow, lost, lonely, dusty, weary, willow's outstretched arms in the desert - good symbolism in the latter image
3. The ladder imagery is direct and visual and ties in well with the title of the song
4. The choruses progressively develop the thoughts/observations in the song and it is therefore okay that not all choruses are the same
5. Regarding the style of music to which your lyrics could be set, a reference might be "Highwaymen" by Jim Webb-for me that song, and the singers involved, conjure up images of persistence, tenancity, earthiness, timelessness and the idea of enduring and prevailing, and I believe that this is in keeping with the pilgram reference in the first verse.

Cheers
Michael Leeman

Just FYI he's not interested as they aren't posted here for critique, SGV can't use a computer properly so he has special permission to post his lyrics here as a way of sharing them. In the review forum.

Thanks, MJ. I appreciate it. It's very hard to write Gospel-oriented material. Above all, you want it it to honor its subject. :)
