Glass On the HighwayAt first I felt kinda foggy, then my mind began to clearAs I stood there on the asphalt, day began to disappearBlackbird perched upon a billboard, kept a shadow in his eyeLabel blowin’ down the two-lane, and a broken pint of ryeleft glass on the highwayGlass on the highwayI recalled when Julie left me, how I jumped in my old DodgeBut now most of those blue mem’ries, seem like just a sad mirageSomethin’ calls me in the distance, like south winds through dead mesquiteWarm air risin’ from the blacktop, seems to glisten like a sheetOf glass on the highwaySparklin’ in the red sunsetCanyon behind meFull of haunted silhouettesAs I walk slowlyTwilight feels so cold n starkWhile glass on the highwayReflects a broken heartWell, I musta drank that whiskey, as I drove this winding roadTossed the bottle out the window, let the label be my noteCos I see a twisted oak tree, near the two-lane on the rightMy old Dodge is wrapped around it, and I’m lyin’ there besideGlass on the highwaySparklin’ in the red sunsetCanyon behind meFull of haunted silhouettesAs I walk slowlyTwilight feels so cold n starkWhile glass on the highwayReflects a broken heart©2007 Robert George
