I Thought You Were Someone ElseAs I strolled along the summer boardwalk, like we used to in the seaside mistI saw lovers holding hands and laughing, while the sun was slipping to the westThrough the crowd by the tilt-a-whirlI thought I saw a familiar girlWith a candy colored ribbon in her curlsI tapped her on the shoulder, but when she turned around I told her “I thought you were someone elseA lover that I dreamt ofI guess it’s time I let goOf a love that once wasOcean waves were dancin’To the songs of carouselsAs with regret I slowly saidI thought you were someone else”And the sea reminded me how mem’ries, ebb and flow just like a moonlit tideThey wash away in the light of morning, then they slip into my dreams at nightI still saw us walking that sandy shoreShe said time was changing me more n moreI wasn’t the same man she’d fallen forMy heart became a hall of mirrors, all along that beach I could hear her say“I thought you were someone elseA lover that I dreamt ofI guess its time I let goOf a love that once wasSadness cut right through meLike the wind through old seashellsAs with regret she slowly saidI thought you were someone else”Now the sun set behind the roller coasterPainting the sky like a boardwalk posterThen I heard a gentle voice behind meSomehow fate told her where to find meI knew our love was back to stay, cos when I turned around she didn’t say“I thought you were someone elseI thought you were someone else”©2007 Robert George
