Lone Wolf and a Loan SharkI fought in Special Forces, over in Desert StormMy missions were so secret, shadow was my uniformDid some bare-knuckle boxing, after I got outBet on myself and cleared a grand, for two minute boutsThough I could take their life or teeth, with a hard right crossI’d leave ‘em with a lisp, and ice on their jawsThen I vanished in thin air, ‘fore the wind knew I was thereIn some adobe jailhouse, for fightin’ in NogalesI got word my poor father, was back shot near DallasHe’d taken cash from a loan shark, when droughts left him ruinedBut that half again interest, swallowed him with out chewin’So I pretended to be sick, and that yawnin’ guard came backI told him I was sorry, then gave him a five knuckle napThen I vanished in thin air, ‘fore the wind knew I was thereNight rumors said that shark, swam the darkness in styleGave orders to bodyguards, with his diamond studded smileI thumbed it back to Texas, ‘fore they buried my dad’s bonesCos a man who’d reaped mostly rocks, deserved a decent stoneThe little man’s invisible, on this mean old planetSo I made the undertaker, carve this poem on the graniteI vanished in thin air, ‘fore the wind knew I was thereWell, that loanshark and his guard, stepped from a midnight clubWalked toward a pink Mercedes, bought with desp’rate bloodI slid a blade in his guard, and he fell with a thumpNow he’s catchin’ a billion winks, at Potter’s Field near the dumpI hit that loanshark once, left him by a garbage canBig gap in his dead man’s grin, and a diamond in my handThen I vanished in thin air, ‘fore the wind knew I was there©2007 Robert George
